Positive Paths From a Teacher: The Last Act of the Year
The end of the year is much like the end of a long race or an intense performance. We are nearing that end these next few weeks preceding the final exams the week of June 9. The race is still on, the performance is entering its final act, and the runners, the dancers, the musicians, the actors, and the artists, are still proving their mettle. What I can say is that we can’t give up just yet. There is still the finish line, the final curtain call, or the final reveal to be made. This is the time we are taking the final steps toward our goals.
The end of the year is a cause for celebration and a time of reflection. Often, we think of the end of the year as a time after the holidays before the New Year’s celebration. However, the year’s end in the educational world begins with a summer holiday or a summer break for the students and their families. My hope is that you all find time to rest and reflect on this year’s progress and the wonderful opportunities that were given to you this year at Arkansas Arts Academy. This school is truly a wonderful place full of opportunities to grow and thrive as an individual and as an artist.
Step forward to the edge of our school year’s end, take a breath, and give your best to the process, the joy of doing your best work.

The Crescent Haunting
It's time to congratulate three of our 7th grade students, Corissa Arnold, Britton Dixxon, and Scott Hansen, who won 2nd place in the Great Arkansas History Video Game Coding Competition for their game "The Crescent Haunting". The competition invited students to create a video game based on their favorite Arkansas ghost story, and our students impressed the judges with their creativity and technical skills. In their game, you play as Jasper the cat as you explore the Crescent Hotel in Eureka Springs, AR, learning about the history of the hotel and about some of the ghosts that have been reported there.
The team put in a lot of hard work and dedication into this project. They created all the artwork, textures, and music themselves, using no pre-made assets, and the game consisted of 1895 lines of code. Their success is a testament to their talent, teamwork, and dedication to learning, and it is an inspiration for all of us to continue to push our students to achieve great things.
Their game can be played here if you would like to check it out: https://arcade.makecode.com/S47418-59182-57707-35415
