Shawnee High School

A Note from Guidance...

We would like to express our appreciation to our administration, staff, parents, and students for your incredible patience and flexibility so far this school year. We realize that this has been a difficult time for everyone, but our school community has come together to ensure that our students at Shawnee High School are receiving the education and support that they deserve. We are so thankful for your patience, resilience, adaptability, and kindness. It's a blessing to be in such a wonderful school district. We hope everyone has a safe and healthy winter break. No School

There will be no school from Wednesday, November 25th to Friday, November 27th. Students will return to school on Monday, November 30th.

2 Hour Delay

There will be a 2 hour delay for teacher-in-service on Wednesday, December 2nd. Students are expected to be here by 9:35 a.m.

A Note From the Cafeteria

Just a reminder that the USDA has extended FREE meals for students through the end of the 2020-21 school year. All in person learners can get FREE breakfast and lunch for the rest of the school year. The food service department encourages all students to participate in the opportunity.

Math Tutoring

Does your student need some extra math help? One of our math teachers, Mrs. Keller, is offering after school math tutoring. It is being done virtually. Here is the link to sign up: bit.ly/kellertutor

Reminder: No Semester Exams

There will be no semester exams this school year. The first semester ends Friday, January 15th.

Apollo Career Center

Apollo Career Center offers more than 20 career-technical programs that take two years to complete. The students have the opportunity to experience hands-on training and college prep academics to prepare students for their futures after high school. Students from eleven area districts attend Apollo , giving students the chance to meet new people, be exposed to a diverse population, and meet peers who share the same goals and interests. To be admitted to Apollo after their 10th grade year, students need a minimum of eight credits: two English credits, two Math credits, one Science credit, one Social Studies credit, and two additional credits (Health, Fine Art, etc.). Apollo representatives will speak with all sophomores on November 30, giving them information about programs as well as a permission form to register for Apollo's 411 Blast Day in late January. 411 Blast Day allows students to tour two programs of their choice, helping them to decide if Apollo may be right for them. Virtual Workshops

Cornerstone of Hope Lima is presenting two FREE virtual workshops for our community to participate in.

Thursday, December 3rd from 6pm-8pm will be the virtual workshop, Through the Holidays, to give families practical tools and ideas to help manage expectations, family dynamics, and shifts in holiday traditions due to the pandemic.

Monday, December 21st from 9am-10:30am will be the virtual workshop, Pandemic Hope & Resilience Workshop, that will include the following:

psychoeducation regarding the impact of psychological stress and various types of grief as a result of the pandemic
learning about self-awareness of losses, stress symptoms, and emotions
equipping participants with practical skills for healthy coping and healthy thinking, maintaining routine and productivity, being intentionally connective, recognizing strengths, utilizing gratefulness, and implementing forward thinking through a resilient mindset
