Melville Message Community Update

In partnership with families and community, the mission of Melville Elementary School is to provide all students with a strong academic foundation through diverse and challenging instruction in a safe and nurturing environment enabling them to achieve their greatest potential while developing self-confidence, respect, responsibility, compassion and a love of learning.

On Wednesday 2/8 student dismissal will run from 2:15-2:30.

Dear Members of the PSD Community,

As you have probably heard, we have some extreme cold forecasted over the next few days. Temperatures are predicted to decrease throughout the day on Friday, with the coldest stretch coming Friday evening into Saturday. I am sharing these tips from the National Weather Service on how to best plan for the forecasted conditions. The recommendations are to avoid being outdoors for long periods of time on Saturday when possible. This site has a list of warming centers throughout Rhode Island if you have concerns about relatives or neighbors or you can call 2-1-1 for assistance.

On Wednesday morning our students enjoyed the Navy Brass Band. It was such a great concert.

To help our students feel safe and supported on the bus each day our school in collaboration with the bus company has created expectations for the bus. These will be reviewed in class each afternoon and will be given to each bus. Please also review these expectations with your child. Thank you for your support.

The lost and found at Melville continues to grow. Please stop by the lost and found table during parent teacher conferences.

Please also make every effort to label your child ‘s clothing items with his or her name, this would help tremendously in getting these items back to their rightful owners.

When you enter the Melville parking lot you may have noticed our Planet Aid Bin. If you have clothing to donate please consider using this bin!

2022-2023 School Calendar

We go outside as much as possible and we want our students to be warm and ready to play! Please help your children select weather appropriate clothing as we enter the colder months.

In order to publish a yearbook, then we have to have parents parent support. We currently have an incredible yearbook coordinator, but this is her last year. We need a parent or parents of children K-3 who would be able to mentor this year and lead next year!

If you do not pre order a yearbook, then we may not have enough available to purchase at the end of the school year when it comes out. We order a some extra, but the only guarantee is to pre order, so I highly recommend ordering one ahead of time.

We are excited to say that our 2023 Spring Baseball and Softball registration is now open. We have a lot of exciting things going on with the league and hope you will register early. We are still offering our family cap, sibling discount and military discounts. Early Bird registration discount will be in place until January 31st. Registration will remain open for Minors, Majors and Seniors through March 11th. Tee ball, Coach Pitch and Machine Pitch registration will be open until March 31st. These dates are to provide us with the proper amount of time to secure uniforms and other needed equipment before the season opens. We are adding a Senior division in Baseball this year (ages 13 to 16) to the league. If you are interested in volunteering or chaperoning this school year, then you will need to complete the volunteer approval process. Mrs. McEvoy in our office is a notary and can be of any assistance, so please do not hesitate to reach out!

In keeping with the spirit of giving, our Feinstein Jr. Scholars are excited to start an in-school food pantry that our students and families can donate to and access when needed.
