Gerry Petersen-Incorvaia Ph.D. is a Solution Tree associate, author, and former superintendent for educational services in Arizona. His work focuses on ensuring all students have access to a guaranteed and viable curriculum.

Dr. Petersen-Incorvaia guides the tight alignment of rigorous curriculum, balanced assessment, and targeted interventions and enrichments. He does this work by ensuring that collaborative teams of teachers, administrators, and other stakeholders engage with this important work.

The Board of Education is seeking committee members to establish an Honorary Naming Committee. This sub-committee will be created and be led by the Board of Education and Policy Committee to be charged with recommending both policy and administration regulation recommendations to the Board of Education for consideration regarding naming district facilities in honor of worthy individuals.

SAT Math Prep Class is offered through Community Programs. October 6 - 27. This effective class is designed to teach you how to improve your performance on the SAT. The primary intent of this class is to examine the tricks and tactics that will enhance your score. Some math reviews will also be included. Practice exams and problem sets will accompany the class.

Scheduled to accommodate students taking SAT at HFL on 11/6/2021.

Renowned author and co-teaching expert, Anne Beninghof is scheduled to visit the District on October 13, 2021, and October 14, 2021. Beninghof will be in the District to observe current co-teaching models and provide embedded co-teaching support.

Co-teaching is an instructional approach for reaching the wide range of student needs in today’s inclusive classrooms.

Beninghof is an internationally recognized consultant and trainer with more than 33 years of experience in the field of education. Currently, she co-teaches part-time to design instruction for heterogeneous classrooms. In both her presenting and writing, Beninghof focuses on creative, practical solutions for more effectively including students with diverse learning needs in general education classrooms.

Beninghof has authored several books including Co-Teaching that Works: Structures and Strategies for Maximizing Student Learning, Super Strategies for Everyday Teaching, Specially Designed Instruction: Increasing Success for students with Disabilities, Caffeinated Learning: How to Design and Conduct Rich, Robust Professional Learning, and more.

Beninghof has conducted several Zoom sessions with HF-L staff in the past however this will be the first time she can come to the campus to work directly with teachers in classrooms.

The National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) announced the names of approximately 16,000 Semifinalists in the 67th annual National Merit Scholarship Program. Three of these semifinalists are HF-L seniors, Simon Butler, Henry Shields, and Roan Torpey. These academically talented high school seniors have an opportunity to continue in the competition for some 7,500 National Merit Scholarships worth more than $30 million! On the September 14, 2021, Board of Education meeting, the board received an update on the District’s partnership with Paper, a digital tutoring service. This service is available to all HF-L students in grades 4-12 and will provide free, unlimited access to virtual tutoring sessions. These sessions are 1:1 and are available 24 hours a day. Students can access this using their ClassLink portal.

Using Paper, students get homework help, writing feedback, and study support on demand. Teachers gain insights into learning gaps. Administrators have visibility into where support is needed.

Get a head start on the language by joining us for an educationally oriented curriculum that is specifically designed for the K-5 students to learn the Spanish Language. This unique and exciting program features foundation vocabulary introduced through games, singing, and fun activities. Students can compound words and begin forming simple sentences. Early introduction increases the student's ability to absorb rather than translate the language. Class is open to new and returning students! Youth Trophy Cup Runs is back this Fall, after a 1-year pandemic break. Year number 24!!! Bring your child(ren) and have a blast. Ages 5 - 12. Sunday, October 10 at 12:15 pm, behind the Manor School. Registration is available on the HF-L Community Programs website.

Mendon Public Library is open M-Th, 9 am - 8 pm. Friday and Saturday, 9 am - 3 pm.

• Tuesday Story Time at the Gazebo, 10 am, Rain or shine, bring your toddler for stories, songs, and simple crafts.
• For Adults - Join us Tuesdays now through November, from 12:12 – 12:52 PM, to watch a book review on the “big screen” at Mendon Public Library. No reservation is needed. We will be showing the Fall 2021 Books Sandwiched In book reviews, provided by the FFRPL (Friends and Foundation of Rochester Public Library).

New York State West Youth Soccer Association (NYSWYSA) is focusing on an initiative to engage children in healthy activities by staging a free day of soccer in the fall.

NYSWYSA will run a free soccer event in Rochester/Webster to introduce the children to soccer in hopes to get them involved in the sport.

The event is completely free, and each participant will receive a gift (small soccer ball, water bottle, drawstring bag).

A Halloween boo is a little gift or treats left anonymously by a friend or neighbor during the Halloween holiday. Last year, the event was started because of the restrictions to trick-or-treat due to COVID-19. This year due to the overwhelming popularity, the community event is BACK! In the first year of the HF-L BOO EVENT, we came together to surprise over 500+ children in our district! Every year Senator Gallivan and Assemblywoman Marge Byrnes host a Free E-cycle event with Sunnking Recycling Services. This year's event is on Saturday, October 2nd from 8:30am until Noon in the Avon Central School's High School parking lot.

Lima Ambulance will be hosting a recruitment event on 10/2/21 from 9 am to 2 pm. The event will include demonstrations, tours, Mercy Flight, State Police, and CarSeat Safety Technicians. Bring the family to learn more about our Volunteer Ambulance Corp.
