TOYS 4 TOTS
Now that the Holiday Season is approaching, please consider helping the S.T.E.M. Club collect donations of new, unwrapped toys for needy kids in the area. Our club is responsible for the toy collection at the High School as well as transporting all the toys collected from all HF-L schools to the Community Center on December 9th. With the rising costs of everything, please consider doing what you can to help our local families. If you can help, the suggested age range for gifts includes newborn to 15ish. Amazon gift cards are always welcome, especially for the older kids. The High School Toys 4 Tots box is located near the Main Office. Donations will be accepted until 2pm on December 9th.
Thank you for supporting our students as they work to impact their own community during this special time of year. The STEM Club is once again very proud to team up with The Kade Project https://www.facebook.com/thekadeproject/ in their 12th year organizing the local T4T campaign.
PARENT/TEACHER CONFERENCES
HF-L High School is excited to share that starting this year, Schoology, our learning management system that connects classroom activities and assignments in an online environment now directly communicates with SchoolTool which is the School’s on-line grade book. Both School Tool and Schoology are accessible to parents (https://www.hflcsd.org/page/schoology-parent-account).
We understand how busy students, parents, and staff all are throughout the school year. Our use of emails, phone calls, Zoom, Schoology, and SchoolTool are all meant to help parents keep track of the academic performance of your child while they attend high school. With your student having numerous teachers, these systems allow for streamlined communication.
Therefore, the HF-L High School is refining our approach to Parent/Teacher Conferences. In our experience parent-teacher conferences as a single event are not as effective as ongoing, consistent, and timely communication. In addition we have seen a significant decrease in parent scheduled appointments with staff on designated conference days.
However, our teachers remain committed to assisting our learners and improving communication with families through various strategies:
- Keeping SchoolTool gradebook up to date
- Directly communicating with families when a student struggles or has new success in class
- Initiating or participating in conferences as needed with families anytime throughout the school year
I encourage you to include your child when reviewing SchoolTool. Many of your questions can be answered during this discussion. If you schedule a conference with teachers, we encourage you to include your child. We believe it is important that students partner with teachers and parents to remain responsible for their learning.
