THE 7 MONSTERS OF POLLUTION
CHAPTER 4
On a beautiful sunny day the children of the 6th Primary school of Livadia were getting ready to go on a school trip to the nearest mountain, the Helicon. Mount Helicon is a high mountain full of huge firs, beautiful and fragrant flowers and traditional villages. Ancient Greek people believed that this mountain was enchanted as it was inhabited by the Nine Muses. This was their destination…
They took the bus very early in the morning and on their way to the mountain they were singing happily as they were looking forward to reach the place. No sooner had they left than they started seeing fumes, ashes around them and smelling burned wood.
When they arrived, they saw flames everywhere and were scared! The rushed to put out the fires with the bottles of water they had on them. Luckily, they managed to put out the fire quickly; unfortunately, though, their trip was ruined!
They decided to leave and return to school when they noticed a huge axe on a burned fir! Suddenly some children saw a shadow coming towards them!
It was a monster with a square head and red eyes! He was spitting mud from the mouth, had a tree for tongue and his curly and green hair was producing flames. His body was an enormous trunk, his hands were big axes and his feet were two huge stilts with roots as toes. He was the Foresterminator who hated forests and loved big cities with blocks of flats.
The children were panicked and started running to be saved. The destroyer chased the children because they had ruined his plans for building blocks of flats in that place.
The children hid in a cave and waited until the monster, who was wandering, left. But it got dark and the children were scared, cold and hungry. A child wished for a god to come and help them as the Mount Helicon was the enchanted mountain of the Nine Muses, who were friends with the Twelve Gods of Olympus. Suddenly, the saw a big flash and God Dionysus appeared in front of them. He asked them what the problem was and why they asked for a God’s help. When he heard about the Foresterminator, he understood that it must be one of the former giants and he decided to help them.
Two brave children decided to come out of the cave and run away so as for the monster to chase them and move away from the cave. The rest of the children together with God Dionysus would search for the Foresterminator’s house.
Indeed, as soon as the monster got away, the children got out of the cave and started looking for his house in the forest. When they discovered it, they entered the house and with Dionysus’ help they poured magical wine in his food. Then, they got out and hid behind a big rock.
A little time later, the monster returned having captured the two children. He put them in a cage, threatened to kill them and sat down to have a meal. The moment he tasted the food, the spell was solved and he was transformed into a gentle giant who protects the forests. When he saw the jailed children, he asked them why they were there and when they told him what had happened, he started crying as he realized how bad he was.
At that time the rest of the children together with Dionysus approached and started consoling him and telling him that what happened belongs to the past and they will try to fix every ugly staff he had done! What’s more, the children thought about giving a new name to their new friend to cheer him up, they named him Forestious Protectius!
Forestious Protectius immediately ran to find the axe he had lost in the forest and with that he started knocking down the blocks of flats he had built in the mountains which were uninhabited. The children with Dionysus’ help planted trees and soon their entire area got green again.
Dionysus told Forestious Protectius about the rest of the giants and then the giant decided to visit his old friends and help them fix all the ugly staff they had done! The children bade farewell to him and he started his journey, his first destination was Cityhapiness who lived in Thessaloniki.
