Fun with QR Codes
Great for communication, collaboration, critical thinking
Make sure that you have a QR reader downloaded on your device. A QR Code, which stands for Quick Response, is an image that when scanned, will go directly to a web site. You can make QR codes that link to text, images, videos, and any web content.
Task #2: Collaborate and Communicate - States and Capitals QR Matching
- You will be given HALF of a QR Code and a 3 Facts sheet.
- Your mission is to find the person who has your matching half then put your codes together. Line them up carefully!
- Using your QR reader, scan the code to see if you are correct. If you are correct, then you will be given a message. If you are incorrect, no message will be given so you will need to try again.
- Once you have your match, that person will be your partner. Together, discover 3 unique facts about your city and 3 unique facts about your state. Write them on your 3 Facts Sheet

Roll the Dice App Smashing
App Smashing 101
App smashing is when content created in one app is then brought into another app to enhance or expand it. The final product can then be shared online. Using App Dice begins the creative process and has touched all 4C's by the finish.
Ideas for App Smashing
- Cells (Grab a screen shot of different cells. Use Skitch to lable the cells, and iMovie to create a video about the cells
- Google Earth (Grab a screen shot of any place or location, or even a map. Use Skitch to label the image and create characters in Tellagami to describe the location or tell a story.
- Use Popplet lite to create a mind map. Grab a screen shot of the mind map and use iMovie to explain the map

Task # 3: App Smash the Water Cycle (Collaborate, Communicate, Critically Think, and Create)
- At your table, examine the dice and you will see that one die has "creation" apps and one has showcase apps. Choose a person at the table to roll the creation die and another person will roll the showcase die.
- Working together or in pairs, use the creation app to explain the water cycle. (If you have forgotten what it is, click here.) You add your creation to the showcase app rolled to create a final product.
- You will share your final creation using Showbie, Google, blog, etc.

Ways to Use Audio in the Classroom
Audio is a great way for students to improve their listening skills. Students who are engaged in listening improve their processing and application skills. Here is a creative idea from a teacher incorporating Voki in her classroom. More
- Create a "voicemail" link for a quick assignment summary
- Create a podcast or radio show
- Narrate a story
- Create a soundtrack
- Create interactive audio notes with Classmint
- Create a QR Voice code
- Embed a recording in a website or blog
- Learning foreign language – Students can record speaking and receive comments from teachers and class members on their performance
- Reading – Younger students can record their reading practice and listen back to hear their voice
- Poetry – Students can be asked to comment on certain aspects of a reading
- Public speaking – students perform public speaking with a virtual audience
- Storytelling – Older students or teachers can record short stories for younger students to listen to
