Welcome to January and the spring semester! Now is a great time to let go of struggles from last semester, carry through all the great things that you do, and make plans for how you can continue to grow the future leaders of the world.

As you move through this month, remember to reteach your rules, expectations, and attention signal. This is also a great time to build in a new element to your classroom. Maybe you want to try morning meetings or build in a time for 2-3 students a day to share something about themselves with the class. It is never too late to build a classroom culture.

Greeting students at your door is a great way to build positive interactions. Using their name and giving them a high-five or a kind word helps start the class by students getting attention from you and shows them that they are important and welcome.

Mr. Keron at Armstrong Elementary wrote each of his students a note and put it in their mailbox. Students were so happy to read and share their notes with the class. Handwritten letters carry a touch of sentimentality in a world that has become mostly digital. The time he took to do this will pale in comparison to the time that the students carry his kind words with them.

SPRING OFFERINGS

PBIS: Effective Classroom & Behavior Management

Effective classroom management is proactive, positive, and instructional. This staff development will provide assistance to all teachers on how to motivate and manage student behavior using a positive approach. We will spend the day on techniques to work on essential classroom management components including teaching expectations, developing rules and procedures, using positive interactions, providing positive feedback, and correcting misbehavior in a calm and consistent manner.

Behavior Interventions

In this full day training, you will learn how to use the variables of STOIC to problem solve for different behaviors. You will also learn many helpful early-stage interventions, such as Planned Discussions and Debriefing with Data, that can be easily implemented by teachers to improve specific behaviors that occur in our classrooms and support students on their way to success. This training is designed for individual teachers as well as Problem Solving Teams.

Tough Kid

This training is designed for staff that have received training in PBIS (CHAMPS/Foundations). This training will provide great information on how to work with some of the toughest kids. Campus Representatives will receive a copy of "The Tough Kid Book" and "The Tough Kid Tool Box."
