NOVEMBER 2021
A Word from Mrs. Washausen
We will be celebrating World Kindness Day on Friday, November 12th. We always encourage kindness but we will be having some extra fun by being kind!
Students enjoyed helping staff find hidden pumpkins around the school during the month of October. Now it's their turn. We will hide 10 turkeys a day around the building. If a student finds one, they bring it to the office for a Bow Wow Bone!
Speaking of Bow Wow Bones, if you have any candy or small items to donate, we would greatly appreciate them! Students shop in the Bow Wow Bone Store using their bones to purchase candy, fidgets, toys, special passes, etc.
With cooler temperatures comes more indoor time and the sharing of germs. Click here to see the updated IDPH Exclusion Guidance for Schools. If you would possibly like your child to take advantage of the Shield Illinois Saliva Testing option in the future, you can save yourself some time by registering your child on the roe45.net website. Click the COVID-19 banner and then the parent register button to fill out the form.
We cannot thank you all enough for your continued support throughout the school year!

BOOK FAIR
COLD WEATHER
Unfortunately the cold weather is coming! Please remind your students to dress for the weather. Check the temp with your student the night before or the morning of school, and keep in mind that if the temperature is 21 or above, and not raining, students will go outside for recess. Thicker coats, hats, gloves, and long pants are all things they need to consider wearing to school. Wearing more layers also brings about lost items. Please remember to write your student's name in their items. If they lose something remind them to check the lost and found in the cafeteria. Anything found is always hung up on the cafeteria wall.
YEARBOOK INFORMATION
PAPA JOHN'S NIGHT
4TH GRADE NEWS
Thank you to all parents who attended parent teacher conferences to celebrate your child’s accomplishments this year!
Your 4th grader has begun to learn about waves of sound in science. In reading they will be starting to learn how to utilize the somebody (main character), wanted (goal), but (problem), so (major event), and then (resolution) organizer to compose their story summaries. In social studies they have begun to explore and learn about the French and Northeast states. Our writers have chosen a topic to research. They are working on getting their notes for their informational report. Then they will soon learn about all of the features they will need in their informational report writing. Your mathematician is jumping into Unit 3 which is the beginning of the lessons of fractions! They are still working on mastering their multiplication facts each day. Thank you for supporting your learner each day!
5TH GRADE NEWS
Mathematicians have been exploring patterns in the base 10 place value system and ways of representing large numbers. They also have been applying their understanding of place value when estimating and computing with multi-digit whole numbers. Additionally, students are working with U.S. traditional multiplication and reviewing partial-quotients division in this unit as well. Eager scientists have been learning all about constellations, moon phases and the role the sun plays in shadows. Your learners have also been undercover reading detectives as they worked to determine importance with various reading passages. They also utilized the somebody (main character), wanted (goal), but (problem), so (major event), and then (resolution) organizer to compose their story summaries. They learned that a summary is a short and sweet account of a story. Young authors finished up their personal narratives and celebrated them with a publishing party. They had the opportunity to share their written masterpieces with their peers and receive compliments on their published work. Next, they will start to uncover all the features of informational report writing. Ask them what topic interests them, they know a lot about or would want to learn and teach someone else. Additionally, students continue to build their spelling, grammar and daily oral language skills through weekly lessons, practice on Spelling City and through their grammar notebooks. Daily journal writing continues as students write to various prompts ranging from, my most vivid childhood memory to writing a funny story titled, "The Turkey Who Ate Too Much." Thank-you for self certifying your child each day and your continued support as we move forward healthy and happy with our daily learning.
