Perez Post: Summer 2023 Edition

Happy summer, Pythons! I hope that you are relaxing and staying cool as July comes to a close! Principals get two weeks off each summer, and we took full advantage with a trip to Guanajuato, Mexico, and to Iowa. It was so fun to watch the boys reconnect with family and navigate each space. We're fielding frequent requests to hop on a plane and return, and the reasons we need to go back immediately are getting more and more humorous the further removed we are from our trips! I love that summer affords me time to reconnect with people and places that fill my bucket. I hope you've been able to do the same or have explored new places and created new connections. Can't wait to see some pictures of your summer in our annual staff slideshow (see more below).

While I enjoy the slower pace of the summer, Perez is awfully quiet without you and our students around! We know that great things grow here at Perez, and your work to create and cultivate spaces for growth and greatness is transformational for students. I'm looking forward to seeing you on August 4th to continue growing together!

All classrooms are accessible starting Wednesday, July 26th. While your room is ready, maybe you're not, and that's fine! There's no expectation to come back early to work in your room, but you're welcome to do so if you like. Josefina, Gris, Rosario, and Luciano have done an outstanding job of cleaning and beautifying our school! We have fresh paint, a power washed exterior, and shiny floors. Let's do our part to keep our school looking great, now and throughout the year:

• do not drag furniture or boxes across the floors - send Josefina Rojas a teams message if you need help moving something and a member of the custodial team will assist
• keep hands, feet, and objects off walls while moving - the 500 wing, cafe hallway, 700 wing, and the back hallway were painted. Let's keep them looking sharp!
• furniture is not up for grabs - please do not take furniture, EduDisplays, etc from other classrooms or spaces. If you need something that you don't have, submit a request here.

The building is open from 7am-7pm Monday through Thursday. Note that the AC isn't on school-wide yet, so if you plan to work in your room, please email Cheryl White, our new bookkeeper, with the dates/times and your room number/hallway so she can request AC for you.

BEFORE you spend time setting up your classroom, please review the classroom set up expectations. These are the floor, not the ceiling, for your classroom at Perez. These expectations create commonalities, equity of experience and expectations, and alignment for students. August 3rd: New to Perez On Campus Orientation (all are welcome to attend)

August 4th: First day back! Teacher planning & prep day; TAs schedule 7:15am-3:45pm

August 7th: Campus PD Day (watch for agenda via email in the coming days)

August 8th: Job-alike PD Day

August 9th: Campus PD Day; staff photo 8am

August 10th: Planning and prep day

August 11th: Planning and prep day; Meet Your Teacher: 1-2:30pm
