Largo Principal's Parent Press

The Largo Principal's Parent Press is a bi-weekly communication newsletter that will be used to keep parents in the know about events, happenings, and updates at Largo High School straight from Principal Lewis' desk.

Grade-level administrators should be the first line of contact for any concerns that deal with your student(s). If you cannot contact your grade-level administrator after 48 hours, the principal would be the second point of contact.

We will host our first Back to School Night in person since 2019. We are excited to welcome parents back into "The Den" to meet teachers, administrators, and experience a glimpse of Largo's culture. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. with our grade-level meetings, and "Open House." We will kick off the main session at 6:30 p.m in the Multipurpose Room. See you there!

Largo students will take their annual school pictures next week. Through this process, students will also receive their school ID cards. Be sure to look your best for this occasion!

We need your help! Did you know that Largo High School has an 87% attendance rate? While its not bad, it could be better. We are asking parents to aim to drop students off between 7:25 and 7:35 a.m., which will allow students ample time to get to class on time. If parents or loved ones drop students off at 7:45 a.m. we have already set the expectation that tardiness is acceptable. Parents and guardians, please do your part to make sure that we set our students up for success.

Students at the secondary level in all Prince George's County Public Schools are required to have clear book bags only. There will be no exceptions made under any circumstances. This communication has been shared widely with families beginning last school year. Please ensure that your child comes to school with a clear book bag. Visually, we are about north of 90% compliance, and have been offering assistance to students who need them until resources have been exhausted.

As a reminder, Largo High School does not operate by a uniform policy, but does strictly enforce the PGCPS Dress Code. Now that students are aware of the Rights and Responsibilities Handbook, consequences will come down to any student who is not dressed appropriately for school to include, hoods on heads, exposed body parts, etc. We can confidently say that more the majority of our students are in compliance, and there are only a select few who need redirection. Please speak with your child around the policy and support us in this endeavor.

The PGCPS Rights and Responsibilities Handbook provides a framework for academic standards and student behavior to promote positive, supportive and inclusive learning environments to maximize student academic achievement and minimize student behavior issues. It is an outline of the expectations, rights and responsibilities of all members of our school community – a structure where students, families and teachers partner for student success. Assemblies were held this week for all grade levels to apprise them of expectations for a safe school year.
