Principal's Message
Good afternoon Canby High School Students and Families!
I hope you had a wonderful break! We are busy getting back into the swing of trimester two. Students should have settled into their new classes. It is a good time to talk about grades and missing assignments as we are approaching four weeks of the new trimester.
CHS athletes had a busy break. Our women’s basketball team placed first in their bracket at the Lake Oswego ShootOut, our wrestling team blew away the competition at the Larry O tournament, and Men’s Basketball got their first league win at Hillsboro this week.
CSD facilities and construction was very busy during the break as well as work on the building continued. Thanks to the Spring 2020 bond, the Auxiliary Gym got new lighting, 200 hall floors got a new finish, and more and more steel is going into place, including the large beam that seniors and staff got the opportunity to sign.
Looking ahead, January is full of sporting events and activities, including Winter Spirit Spirit Week with Pack the Gym and the Winter Semi-Formal Dance. If your CHS student wants to bring a non-CHS student to the dance, Dance Guest Passes are available in the Student Center and are due by Tuesday, 1/17. This is a strict deadline. Also coming up are conferences for this trimester on February 1. We are working on a hybrid format that will include opportunities to meet with teachers in person or via Zoom. There will be more details in the coming weeks, but mark your calendars now.
Have an amazing week!
Best,
Cari Sloan

State Testing
Over the next few months 11th grade students will have the opportunity to show their knowledge and growth of grade level learning in the areas of math, reading, writing, and science through state testing. This testing:
Helps us understand whether students are progressing with College and Career Readiness skills
Informs the community about how local schools are supporting all students
Informs school improvement planning, student support, budgets, targeted resources.
We will use this information to:
Make decisions about resources
Ensure access to opportunities and academic pathways
More information and dates to follow. Thank you!
Inclement Weather
If the weather is severe enough to cancel school, the first day of inclement weather will be a snow day for all! Any inclement weather day thereafter will be an online learning day. Elementary school families, this means you may see iPads come home with your students if questionable weather is forecasted.
In the event of an online learning day, Canby High School will begin at 8:40 a.m. and all other schools will begin at 9:30 a.m. Students should watch for Zoom links from their teachers. If students have trouble connecting or need help, they should reach out to their teacher. Canby School District strives to make the most of this valuable educational time, but please know that students will not be penalized if they are unable to connect.
To make sure you’re set to receive information about school delays, or closures, and online learning days, please subscribe to Canby School District on FlashAlert. Now is also a good time to update your text preferences online by listing your phone number.
For more information, please see our inclement weather page.

Attendance at CHS
To ensure the accuracy and efficiency of our attendance process, please remember the following guidelines:
If your student needs to leave class for an appointment or because they are sick, inform the attendance office 30 MINUTES PRIOR to leave time. This will help us ensure that your student receives a note to leave class in a timely manner. Students will not be excused without a note.
Pre-Excused Absence: For any anticipated absence that will be more than three days, students are expected to pick up a Pre-Excused Absence Form from Jessie Munoz at the Attendance Office.
To report an absence, call Jessie Munoz at our attendance line at 503-263-7210 or email chs-attendance@canby.k12.or.us.
Students have 48 hours to have unexcused absences excused. Students may lose the opportunity to make up work for credit due to unexcused absences. Please report an absence as soon as possible.
Remember that attendance matters and students who attend class regularly are more likely to stay on track, graduate on time, learn deeply, and get the most from their high school experience.
Information for Seniors
Senior families can put a Senior Ad in the yearbook! Please see this LINK for more information and how to get your ad in the yearbook.
The senior schedule is linked on the “Graduation Information” page. Please check back often for updates. Again, seniors need to watch their emails for graduation information and updates.
