Rolling Hills Primary School
DECEMBER 2023
A Message from Dr. Anderson
Dear Rolling Hills Parents and Guardians:
Welcome to December 2023!
I wanted to thank all of you for your cooperation throughout November. The month was another busy one at Rolling Hills, filled with lots of learning--with many of the lessons focused on the month-long theme of Thanksgiving. I hope you enjoyed a wonderful holiday filled with love and laughter.
I would like to recognize and congratulate Mrs. Lisa Haw, who was selected as our Governor's Educator of the Year and Mrs. Stacy Blanco, who was selected as our Education Services Professional from Rolling Hills this year. These two educators are outstanding examples of the high quality teachers who work with your children every day!
I would like also like to to congratulate Thomas Palmisano, a second grader from Mrs. DiNunzio and Mrs. Monschauer's class, who submitted the winning entry for the "What Makes You Happy" contest. The contest is a long-standing tradition which was developed by the Center for Prevention and Counseling. Well done, Thomas! Please be sure to look for Thomas's submission in the Sussex County edition of the NJ Herald, which will be published on December 10, 2023.
Rolling Hills Primary School will be holding a presentation for parents/guardians regarding the new Standards-Based Report Card that we will be using to provide you with more in-depth information about your child's progress this year. Please be sure to mark your calendars for Monday, December 11th; the hour-long program will begin at 6:00 PM and will be held at Rolling Hills. Attendance at this presentation will enable you to better understand the standards, review the rubrics to help your child make additional academic progress, and ask questions of the presenters. A link to pre-register for the event will be distributed shortly. Report cards will be available for parents/guardians to review on the Parent Portal on Monday, December 18th at 4:00 PM.
We would like to thank everyone for their generous donations to this year's Stuff the Stocking Contest. Our box for donations has been overflowing! Please remember that all donations must be received by Friday, December 8th. The donations will be collected by Project Self-Sufficiency during the week of December 11th.
Most especially, we would like to thank the Rolling Hills SCA, which has worked so hard to ensure that your children enjoy a wonderful year! Congratulations to Mrs. Irish and Mrs. Weiss's class for winning the third grade Turkey Race and to Mrs. Moskovitz's class for being our second grade winners! We appreciate your generosity! Thanks, too, for the SCA's distribution of our monthly birthday books for our November birthday students! The Rolling Hills SCA Holiday Shop begins on Monday, December 4th and runs through Wednesday, December 6th...LET THE SHOPPING BEGIN!
In an effort to start the school year with consistent routines, please note the following:
- This year, we will be strongly encouraging consistent attendance practices for our students each and every day. Please make every effort to have your student to school on time and to avoid early pick-ups each day. The coloring page below will help to remind your child about the importance of attending school consistently--especially prior to and following the upcoming holidays. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.
- If you are driving your child to school, please plan to arrive at Rolling Hills between 9:00 and 9:10 AM. Students arriving after 9:15 AM will be marked "tardy". When you arrive at the school, please follow the directives of the staff members who are outside assisting with this process. There is no need to park your car for morning drop-off, just drive up to the front door and your child may depart from your vehicle. If you could have your child ready to exit from the passenger side, that would provide a safer procedure for our students. Thank you for your assistance. Your cooperation will ensure that everyone receives quality instruction--from bell to bell!
- If you are picking up your child from school, please visit Genesis and then follow the procedure below before noon on the day of the pick up. If you arrive to pick up your child without informing the school office, it delays dismissal for the entire school. If your child is picked up each day, there is no need to follow this procedure daily, as they will be listed on the Daily Pickup List. Thank you very much for your help!
- When you pick up your child, you will need to park and walk to the front door of the school, where there will be a spreadsheet to sign out your child. Students will be called for pick-up dismissal at approximately 3:30 PM. We would sincerely ask your patience and understanding in waiting until that time for your child to be dismissed from if you are picking them up from school. Please avoid all early pick-ups unless there is an emergency, as it is very disruptive to the dismissal process. Thank you in advance for your assistance.
Although I strongly encourage you to reach out directly to your child's teacher(s) first regarding any issues pertaining to instruction or classroom routines, please be assured that I remain committed to every students' educational experience and encourage you to reach out to me if I may be of assistance throughout the school year.
Thank you for your dedication to your child's education and your anticipated cooperation.
With sincere appreciation,
Pauline F. Anderson, Principal

📘KINDNESS CLUB STUDENT SHARES HER LOVE OF READING!📗
Our first Kindness Club reader recently visited Mrs. Reinhardt's class. Lola Ball read "The Good Egg"
and did such a great job!
Over the next few weeks, we will share 5 more Kindness Club students
reading to second grade classes.
THIRD GRADE STUDENTS WRITE AND PERFORM...
...their own songs using a well know melody from a previous music class , guided by Ms. Franck!
In Mrs. Monschauer and Mrs. DiNunzio's classroom...
...the students are enjoying the new Innovamat Program with its hands-on activities. They also celebrated Thanksgiving with crafts, STEM challenges, snacks and other engaging activities! Just take a look:
THANKSGIVING DAY "GRATITUDE" PARADE!
Mrs. Owens and Mrs. Pritchett's class...
...celebrated Thanksgiving with a lesson on the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. They learned all about how the balloons are made and then created individual balloons for our class Gratitude Parade!
In Mrs. Leichtweisz's Second Grade Classroom...
...the students were so excited to have a mystery reader and a mystery scientist visit for Fun Friday! Thank you to our special mystery guests this month. Ellie's mom surprised us as a mystery reader and read Room on a Broom. Arden's grandparents surprised our classroom with a fun science experiment teaching us about how sound waves travel.
...this month they celebrated Veterans Day. We made stars to display in our classroom in order to honor a friend or family member who is a veteran. We also wrote thank you letters so send our gratitude to local veterans. The cards were dropped off at our local VFW and were much appreciated!
...they had a lot to be thankful for this year and had a fun Thanksgiving celebration and would like to thank all of their families for all of the generous contributions to help make our celebration full of delicious snacks! The class enjoyed them very much!
...using our Innovamat Curriculum the class has been practicing skills such as measuring, addition and subtraction, solving word problems, and using logic blocks to classify properties of shapes.
In Ms. Lapp and Mrs. Scovell's Classroom...
...the students explored the effects of natural hazards, such as tornadoes, hurricanes and dust storms. How can you keep a house from blowing away in a windstorm? During the activity, the students designed windproof houses sturdy enough to survive a windstorm and compared the merits of their solutions.
