Weekly Update ~ May 10, 2021
From the Principal's Desk
In the afternoon, if you are a pickup parent, please do not arrive on school property before 2:15. We had scheduled a fire drill practice on Friday and had parents arriving at school to wait in line at 1:35. This could be a danger if indeed there was a real emergency.
In addition, walkers should not be on school property until 9:00.
Thank you for your cooperation.
Fall Return to School
Curriculum Corner
Hello Oak Grove Community,
We are almost done with TAG placement assessments for the fall of 2021. We are now ready to accept appeal applications. The appeal window will be open from May 10th - 23rd. Please email Dr. Sarah Cacciatore at cacciatore@ogschool.org with your appeal form (Parent Inquiry Form) and include what content you are interested in appealing for your child ELA and/or math.
If follow-up testing is needed, you will be contacted by Mrs. Melamed to schedule that with your child.
STANDARDS BASED LEARNING COMMITTEE
In 2017-18, a committee of middle school teachers and parents came together to discuss standards-based grading (SBG). Topics included research about SBG, reviewing models from other districts, and determining our middle school roll out plan.
We are meeting again on May 19th from 4-5 pm through google meet. If you are interested in discussing options around the 6th grade pilot and next steps for SBG at middle school, we are seeking a few more parents to join this committee. Please RSVP by Monday, May 17th HERE.

PTO STAFF LUNCH
On Friday, April 30, the PTO hosted a grab-and go luncheon for our wonderful OGS staff. It was one of the few times this school year that all remote and in-person staff were in the building, making it the perfect time to celebrate our amazing, hard working and dedicated staff members. A BIG THANK YOU to Christine Merrild, Jen Sahagian, and Krista Sorensen for organizing!
LIBERTYVILLE COFFEE COMPANY FUNDRAISER
Oak Grove PTO is excited to announce our last fundraiser of the year! Oak Grove has partnered with Libertyville Coffee Company! Get organic fair trade whole bean or ground coffee delivered right to your door! Libertyville Coffee Company’s founder Annalise Bossler is a local college student who used her time home during the pandemic to create a business. With the stay at home order in place, Annalise created a company that safely delivers gourmet coffee directly to your door! Her family has been in the coffee business for over 25 years. Her father Brian Bossler also known as the Coffee King, owns JavaMania a large coffee roastery just outside of Rockford. With some creative thinking, lots of hard work, and delicious coffee, Annalise is taking on the world one cup at a time! PTO will begin taking orders May 17th-21st.
BOOK FAIR GOOGLE FORM
Students in Kindergarten, First, Second, and Fourth grades— who were unable to attend the Scholastic Book Fair in-person-- received a Google Form from their teacher to order books. The order will be placed this Wednesday, so don’t miss out. If you have any troubles with the Google Form, please contact Beth Zender @ zenders60048@gmail.com.

Student Vaccine Opportunity
This week the FDA is set to grant emergency approval for the Pfizer COVID vaccine for children between the ages of 12-15. Last week, Dr. Matt Barbini, D70 Superintendent, reached out to invite our families to participate in their vaccination pod with Jewel-Osco Pharmacy for students in these age groups. Oak Grove families will have the opportunity to sign up for a vaccination appointment in a COVID Clinic to run from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. on May 25, 2021 (first dose) and June 15, 2021 (second dose) at Highland Middle School. Information on how families can register their children for the clinic will be shared once details are set. These dates are dependent on FDA Pfizer 12 - 15 vaccine approval and may be subject to change as a result.
In addition, parents can also register their child for a vaccine at two sites through the Lake County Health Department (LCHD). You can register now at the links below and future information will be made available and sent to registrants.
- Scheduling for the Fairgrounds - through Allvax: https://allvax.lakecohealth.org/s/?language=en_US
- Scheduling for the Round Lake (previously K-Mart) site - through Curative: cur.tv/lakeco
Note: It is not an expectation nor a mandate for any OGS student to get the COVID-19 vaccine. The decision to be vaccinated is a personal one, and we thank Dr. Barbini for sharing this opportunity for our families' consideration.
