Vision and Hearing Screenings
Parents of all Kinder, First, Third, and Fifth Remote Learners,
Compliance with Texas Health and Safety code requirements: vision, hearing, and spinal screenings will be provided to all in-person and virtual students.
Schools will follow state guidelines for all students, both in-person and online, to obtain vision, hearing, and spinal screenings.
(Spinal screening is for 5th-grade girls only. Click Here for more information on the spinal screening.)
In lieu of the screening(s) provided by the school:
1. Parents or guardians may provide screening record signed by a licensed professional-current record from March 2020 forward
2. Parents or guardians may provide a signed statement that the vision, hearing, or spinal screening conflicts with the tenets and practices of a church or religious denomination
3. Parents or guardians may choose to not have their child participate in school vision, hearing, and/or spinal screenings due to personal/COVID related reasons for the 20-21 school year. Parents must provide a written letter stating that they are declining the screenings for their child.
Letters can be sent to Nurse Crenshaw, kcrenshaw@coppellisd.com

We are excited about our upcoming Town Center Parent Book Study! Based on feedback from our interest survey, we have selected the dates and times below to meet. All of our meetings will be via Zoom. The book, Teach Your Children Well: Why Values and Coping Skills Matter More Than Grades, Trophies, and Fat Envelopes, will be provided for you at no cost. It will also be yours to keep! See below for a blurb about the book and author.
If you are not available for each date below, do not worry! We will have an online option for the meeting dates that you are not able to join us. This will allow you to keep up with our book study and still be a part of the discussion. We are excited about the opportunity to bring TCE parents together for a time of learning, not only from the book but also from each other.
**Registration is open through Friday, February 5th in order to provide time for us to organize materials. At that time we will send all registrants a welcome letter with additional information about materials. We look forward to seeing you all there!

Teach Your Children Well - Why Values and Coping Skills Matter More Than Grades, Trophies, or "Fat Envelopes"
Psychologist Madeline Levine brings together cutting-edge research and thirty years of clinical experience to explode once and for all the myth that good grades, high test scores, and college acceptances should define the parenting endgame. This book clarifies some of the core values and choices that are most likely to lead to authentic success.
A Note from P.E.
Next week, we kickoff our Kids Heart Challenge with the American Heart Association, and we'd love your help!
Next week students will learn all about this year’s heart heroes and will go on a special Mission to help Agent KHC fight heart disease and stroke. If your student is learning virtually or if you would like to preview the fun, CLICK HERE to watch the TOP-SECRET spy-themed video!
If your student is learning on campus they will be receiving a KHC envelope with information. You can also access the envelope virtually by clicking here: KHC Envelope
This year, our goal is to continue to fight heart disease and stroke. You can help us and get started today by registering for FREE on the Kids Heart Challenge page OR by downloading the Kids Heart Challenge app, searching for our school, and registering from there. We understand that not every family may be able to donate this year, however, every student will benefit from learning how and why to take care of their hearts through the heart-healthy curriculum in PE. Families will also have FREE access to the Kids Heart Challenge App/Website which includes a Family Fitness Tracker, heart-healthy recipe guides, educational games, and more! Plus, any student that registers on the website and takes a healthy challenge will automatically receive this year’s Kids Heart Challenge bracelet.
Each week will have a voluntary "mission" for the kids. The first mission for next week is to complete Finn’s Mission on the KHC App or KHC Website and by Monday, Feb. 8th at 7 a.m. to be entered in the drawing for a mystery prize! By completing Finn’s Mission your student will learn all about how to save lives with Hands-Only CPR and learn how to recognize heart attack warning signs.

Reminder: A Note from Our Counselor
During the month of February, our counselor will teach all learners about personal safety using the "Play it Safe" program. "Play it Safe" is a child abuse awareness and prevention program for children. It teaches children to protect themselves by recognizing, reacting to, and reporting potentially dangerous situations, including unsafe and confusing touches.
For more information, please visit the "Play it Safe" website: https://playitsafe.org/index.php. All curriculum materials are available for your viewing during the month of January. Also, feel free to contact me at kmatlock@coppellisd.com if you have any questions.
