St Peter's Primary School
Friday 2nd February 2024
Thank you, Lord, for your new beginnings and unwavering provision.
I trust that your peace will watch over me as I step into a new beginning.
This year, I will rely on the riches of your love and grace
to provide for my physical, emotional and spiritual needs.
In Jesus' name...
Amen.
Message from the Principal
Welcome back to St Peter’s Primary School for 2024! It has been lovely to witness the students excited to return to school, so see their friends ready for another year of learning and fun!
We have had a fantastic first week back at school and I would sincerely like to thank staff, students and parents for such a smooth start to the school year. We are welcoming many new families to the St Peter’s community, with several new families in our 3-year-old program as well as new students throughout the year groups. I sincerely welcome all our new families in 2024!
STAFFING - This year we welcome several new staff members to the St Peter’s team. We warmly welcome Jasmine Sinagra (Pre Kindy Teacher), Melissa Carosin (PPB Teacher), Liz Parker & Katie Galati (Year 3B teachers), Aoife O’Connell (Year 5B Teacher), Monique Du Toit (5W Teacher), Brian Dobbie (Science Teacher), Lucian Watkins (Music Teacher), Jessica Peppler (Literacy Support Education Assistant), Deanna Agnello (PK, PPM & 1M Education Assistant) and Arabella Pisani (Kindy M and PPB Education Assistant).
I am sure that you will join me in making them all feel welcome at our school.
CONGRATULATIONS! - Congratulations to our Year 6M teacher Mrs Elise Galipo (nee Piccirrili), who married Alex on the 16 December 2023 at St George's College. We wish them a lifetime of love and happiness!.
PARENT INFORMATION NIGHT - Our Pre Primary-Year 6 Parent Information Night will be held this Wednesday 7 February. The whole school gathering will begin in our new Library space at 6pm, followed by two repeat sessions held in the classrooms for each year level. The first classroom session will commence at 6:30pm and the second repeat session will begin at 7:00pm. We look forward to seeing you there!
WHOLE SCHOOL MASS - On Friday 9 February at 9am, we will celebrate our first whole school Mass in the Church. We welcome back all our existing students to the 2024 school year, and we extend a special welcome to our new students. During our Mass, we will also invite all new members of staff to come forward to be blessed and welcomed into the St Peter’s community. Our Welcome Mass is a wonderful celebration to begin the new school year!
UNIFORMS - All students are to ensure that the summer uniform is worn correctly. It is important for all students to keep hair neat and tidy, and that no jewellery is to be worn, except for a watch, one pair of studs or sleepers, a gold or silver necklace with a religious medallion or cross, kept tucked into shirt/dress. Thank you to all the wonderful families who always support our school by adhering to correct uniform policy.
I have updated the uniform policy over the summer holidays to include black or brown sandals with the summer uniform.
We have begun updating our St Peter’s Primary School white polo shirts to maroon. During this process students are permitted to wear the new maroon polo shirt or the white polo shirt.
ALLERGY AWARE SCHOOL - Anaphylaxis is a severe, life-threatening allergic reaction. Allergies are increasing, with about 1 in 20 Australian children having a food allergy. St Peter’s is an Allergy Aware school.
The most common food allergies in children are milk (dairy), egg, peanuts, tree nuts (e.g. cashew, pistachio, almond etc), wheat, soy, sesame, fish and crustacea (shellfish). A smaller number of children have severe allergies to insect bites and stings (particularly bee stings). We have students allergic to a wide range of foods throughout our school.
All our staff have completed anaphylaxis training and know which students are at risk of anaphylaxis.
Can you please support us by talking to your child/ren about allergies and how they can help to keep their friends and peers safe. This includes educating them to not share food or drinks with other students and washing their hands after they eat.
GATe - The GATe program will continue to develop and grow this year allowing the students within the program to experience different learning experiences to those delivered in the classroom setting, and to explore areas of interest based on the unique grouping of the students. Students completed the testing for entry into the program last year, and students new to St Peter’s in 2024 will have the opportunity to sit the test in the first few weeks of the term. Offers to successful students will be emailed out to parents by the end of Week 3 (16th February) for a Week 4 start to the program. Parents who receive an offer for their child will be required to complete a Microsoft Form giving permission for their child to be withdrawn from their classroom on a weekly basis. If your child does not receive an offer of invite into the program for 2024, please be assured that every student has the opportunity at the end of the year to take part in the testing again for a 2025 entry. We are looking forward to an exciting and challenging year within our ever-changing learning environment.
