OUR MISSION of CBC YOUTH

We exist to glorify God by making disciples of all people through Gospel truths and Gospel living. Our hope is to equip all youth to love God with all their heart, soul, and mind as well as loving their neighbor, community, and church.

TOP 3: THREE THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW

1. #METOO: Currently #metoo is becoming one of the hottest trending topics on social media as well as popular entertainment. According to CBS, "An untold number of women posted "me too" and revealed their deeply intimate experiences of abuse. Their stories flooded social media and painted a picture of just how many people endure sexual abuse and harassment every day." While this may be the current culture, surely this affects many of us in our community, especially our youth. With that said, we must approach these issues with wisdom and balance. Let us stay away from the extremes of mindless emotional outbursts and apathetic disinterest. For now, let us be an ear to those who are willing to talk about this openly or with us as leaders. Counsel them (as always) to and through the Cross. But looking ahead, leaders we must open the table to talk again about safe space, policy, and procedure.

Awareness campaign about sexual assault and harassment

The #MeToo campaign on social media, which Alyssa Milano initiated on Sunday, is seeing stars including Evan Rachel Wood, Sophia Bush, Rosario Dawson, Lady Gaga and more speaking up as survivors of sexual violence

ME TOO, SEXUAL AGGRESSION, AND HARVEY WEINSTEIN. . .

First, we’ve got a major problem. We live in a hypersexualized world. I don’t think it’s at all a stretch to say that we are reaping what we’ve sown.

Second, we must realize that hypocrisy is universal to humanity.

2. CLERGY APPRECIATION: Leaders, as we continue on with the month of October there is something interesting about this month. It is clergy appreciation. I know it's odd that i'm writing this so don't worry...i'm not talking about me. So what am I talking about? It's more than just saying "thanks" to pastors. It's what Paul constantly reminds the church that they are to respect and submit to them...why? Because they are the ones who cares for the souls of the people (you and I included). I bring this up especially in our time because I want our students to always be a people of gratitude both in action and awareness. We talk about never taking things or people for granted and pastors are often put in this category. So what we're doing the follow month is to purposefully take time to recognize and appreciate those who serve as pastors and ministers over the souls of people. They are the ones who prepare, plan, study, serve, pray, take the hits, and almost never get acknowledged for what they do (even though that is not their aim).

I've assigned each DG to take care of a local pastor in our community. Spend some time with your DG to pray for them, their families, and their ministries. And then spend some time to come up with creative ways to bless them (i.e. gift certificates, notes, food, etc.)

Obey your leaders and submit to them, for they are keeping watch over your souls, as those who will have to give an account. Let them do this with joy and not with groaning, for that would be of no advantage to you. (Hebrews 13:7)

3: MEMBERSHIP MEETING: As usual we will have our membership meeting at the end of this month (Oct. 29). Please come ready to review the month, discuss your reading assignments (see below), and plan for the next month. Membership meetings are given to us because we have committed to one another and this is how we can encourage each and and keep each other accountable. This is also to discuss internal business and address in-house issues.
