RHHS Wildcats: News You Can Use
#LND - LeaveNoDoubt - October 5, 2018
Something for EVERYONE this week!
On Monday, we begin the second quarter of our school year. This means that we are at the half-way mark for our semester-long courses; we are at the 25% mark for our year-long (A/B) courses. Gradebooks should be up-to-date with all first quarter grades by Monday. Progress reports will be distributed in advisement on Thursday - please ask your child to share his/her progress report with you.
I hope you and your family enjoyed fall break. We look forward to seeing everyone bright and early on Monday morning.

Financial Aid Night - Tuesday, 10/9
Please plan to join us on Tuesday, October 9th from 6:00-8:00 in the East Cafeteria for Financial Aid/FAFSA Night.
Wednesday, October 10th - special schedule
Students in grades 9th-11th will report to school at 7:30am on Wednesday, October 10th, as usual. On that day, though, students will report to an assigned classroom for either the PSAT or YouScience.
Students in 9th and 11th grades not taking the PSAT will be completing YouScience. YouScience is a career-guidance platform that has been funded by the State of Georgia for all high school students. It is a powerful resource, and we are excited about RHHS students having the opportunity to complete the YouScience profile and survey.
Students in 12th grade are not required to report to RHHS until 11:30am this day. Seniors are expected to complete their YouScience profiles and surveys outside of school on their own time.

October: College Knowledge Month!
October is College Knowledge Month at Richmond Hill High School - and many of our students have already started the process of visiting schools, completing applications, and preparing to take the PSAT, ACT, and SAT. Even more of our students will begin this process in the coming months. Exposing students to colleges and other post-secondary options is really a yearlong process...for all four years of high school!
In a push to ensure our Financial Aid/FAFSA-completion effort, RHHS has organized a free event for students and families to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The goal is to provide every graduating high school senior with the preparation, opportunity, and support needed to apply to college. Please plan to join us on Tuesday, October 9th from 6:00-8:00 in the East Cafeteria for Financial Aid/FAFSA Night.
New this year, RHHS is offering College Readiness Tours to our juniors and seniors. College Readiness Tours will continue through April 2019. Eligible juniors and seniors will have the opportunity in October and November to visit Coastal College of Georgia in Brunswick, GA, (on October 24th) and Georgia Southern University/Armstrong campus (on November 6th). Stay tuned and look for more information to come on 2nd semester College Readiness Tours for January, February, March, and April 2019.
Our 3rd Annual RHHS College & Career Expo will be held on Tuesday, October 16th from 6:00-8:00 in the East Cafeteria. RHHS students and families will have the opportunity to meet with college and career representatives from around the state of Georgia, including Richmond Hill, to gain more knowledge about various institutions and local places of business.
During the week of October 22-28th, RHHS staff and students celebrate College Knowledge Month by wearing jeans with their favorite college/military shirts and jerseys each day. RHHS loves our military students, families, and recruiters - and we recognize this as a post-secondary opportunity as well - so military shirts and jerseys are certainly included in this.
We hope College Knowledge Month is both informative and engaging for our students.

Advisement conferences - 10th and 12th grade students
Fall conferences target 10th and 12th grade advisement students, and in the spring 9th and 11th grade advisors meet with their students.
If you have a child in 10th or 12th grade, please be on the look out for an invitation from your child's advisor to come in for this conference. If you don't get this invitation by mid-October, please let me know.
Yearbook - Senior Ads
Let your child know how proud you are of his/her accomplishments by purchasing a SENIOR AD in the RHHS yearbook. To purchase an ad, go to www.yearbookordercenter.com and key in our school’s order number (902) and select “Buy a Yearbook Ad”.
Class Dues
RHHS student dues were uploaded to students’ MyPayments+ account on Tuesday, September 4, 2018. Dues are $30 per year. Students only pay for the years he/she attends RHHS. The deadline for paying dues without incurring a late fee is December 1, 2018. When paying on MyPayments+, you will see a payment of $45. Please do not be alarmed by this. In an effort to streamline our payment process and make bookkeeping easier and more accurate, we have already included late fees into the total amount. To avoid paying late fees, please use the discount code "December1" - this will reset the cost to $30.
February 22, 2019 is the final date to pay dues in order to get a prom ticket covered by payment of dues. Any junior or senior student who wishes to go to prom and does not pay dues before February 22, 2019, will have to purchase a prom ticket for $125. Students who have not paid dues in past years must pay those dues as well as dues for this year by the due date in order to receive prom ticket or to be able to participate in graduation week events and graduation ceremony.
College Field Trip - College of Coastal Georgia, 10/24
At RHHS, many of our juniors and seniors are well into their college preparation. Most are in the process of taking the ASVAB, ACT, and SAT - and others are already visiting colleges independently and filling out applications.
RHHS is excited to begin offering monthly college field trip opportunities to eligible juniors and seniors on a first come/first serve basis for the first 35 students to register beginning in September. Our first college field trip is this coming Tuesday.
All junior and senior applicants must meet the following criteria:
1. Passing all classes with a 70 or higher
2. No more than 3 tardies
3. No more than 1 excused absence
Upcoming field trips for 1st semester include:
- 10/24/18- College of Coastal Georgia (in Brunswick)
- 11/06/18 - Georgia Southern University – Armstrong Campus
Eligible 11th and 12th grade students must register through this link .
Parents of the first 35 applicants each month are welcome and encouraged to volunteer as chaperones. Contact Jennifer Blanton, counselor, for additional information.
