Here at HHS, it was a short but busy week that included a steady stream of voters on Election Day, the close of the first term, and lots of playoff action for our teams. Among the many headlines, several items stand out:
A well-deserving HHS junior, Jack Renna was named the “Opry Award” winner for November. Like its namesake, our school’s much-loved comfort dog, the new award seeks to recognize a student who improves school climate and helps others to feel comfortable at HHS. When asked what “inclusiveness” means to him, Jack answered: “In my eyes, to be inclusive means that you embrace all people, regardless of their race, disability, appearance, medical needs, or other differences. The Unified Basketball team is nothing but inclusiveness. Seeing the Partners interact with the athletes brings me so much joy, and to me, this is what Hingham High School is all about."
HHS celebrated National School Psychology Awareness Week by honoring school psychologists Laura Bennett and Diane Whittaker. Though they spend lots of time testing, analyzing results, and writing reports in order to develop specialized education plans for students, it’s hard to summarize the endless ways Ms. Bennett and Ms. Whittaker contribute to the life of our school. They are among the many behind-the-scenes heroes and heroines who help to make HHS a very special place.
Data from the most recent MCAS tests have been posted on the website of the MA Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. This data always helps us to identify areas for growth, but our school’s overall performance should also represent a source of pride for students and staff alike.

A new club called Hospice Helpers held its first meeting Friday morning. Thanks to leadership from Callie Cease '24 and the faculty advisor, Mrs. Turner, they're off to a great start.
The world's greatest comfort dog has a new bench that is worthy of her many contributions to our school. It looks so good because it was built by Mr. Malerbi and 16 talented HHS students.
The HHS crew team concluded a great season with the Frosty Bow sprints on the Back River. Altogether, the team won three gold, four silver, and four bronze medals from regattas across New England this fall. Can't wait to see what they accomplish in the spring!
