Weekly Updates
Dear LSUU Community,
On Tuesday and Wednesday, our central office team collaborated with the University of Washington and many district leaders around the state. The focus was supporting principals as we know they are the #2 influencer on student achievement. The #1 influencer is the classroom teacher. Our goal as a leadership team was to learn and reflect on what central office practices are supporting our principals so they can support teachers. We then met yesterday with our amazing principals, engaging in candid discussions around what we can be doing to maximize their time in the classroom. We also calibrated how feedback is provided to teachers in a way that is supportive. This is something our principals do very well and I'm feeling very fortunate to have a team that understands and values the importance of instructional leadership.
On Monday, we are holding our first round of parent conferences and we hope you can arrange a time to connect with our educators. It is not too late to sign up; please find more information below. Please read the updates below regarding our Portrait of a Graduate work which is a very exciting project for our communities.
Have a wonderful weekend,
Ryan Heraty

Portrait of a Graduate
What is a high quality education? This question comes up frequently and we'll receive a different response for every person we ask. The LSUU board believes a high quality education should be defined by the local community as a way to ensure the school system is aligned with the values of those it serves. A high quality education is a foundation that allows every learner to thrive during and after their educational experience in our schools.
Lamoille South is engaged in a process to create a shared vision for the Lamoille South graduate by engaging all stakeholders (students, teachers, families, etc.) in the community to understand the most important characteristics, skills and experiences that our graduates need to prepare them for success in learning and life. This process goes beyond the traditional reading, writing, and math focus as we equip graduates to contribute meaningfully to our society and live happy and productive lives.
The PoG will be shared with the community following the project and will be used to guide the creation of a detailed strategic plan that will completed by the end of the 2022-23 school year.
Throughout this process, we will be offering many opportunities for community engagement. The initial planning team consists of three LSUU board members Erica Loomis, David Bickford, and Ann Marie Dryden, Lamoille South students from each school, two parents, two teachers, and our high school principals. The team will participate in three full day retreats with our Vermont partner Up for Learning that has successfully facilitated this work in other districts.
Parent Conferences
This year, we are using a scheduling program for all grades to streamline the parent / teacher conference process. It is not too late to sign up for a conference. You can access our registration page by clicking HERE.
Priority Standards
As mentioned throughout last year, our teachers worked hard last year to revise the district priority standards that are the foundation of our coordinated curriculum. We have posted these standards on our Lamoille South website for families to reference. The next phase of our PBL revision process is to revise proficiency scales in grades 5-12 and focus in detail on our math curriculum and resources in grades K-8. You will be hearing more about this important work from our Director of Curriculum and Instruction Toni Martindell throughout the year.
Peoples Academy Full School Field Trip
As an annual tradition, the students of Peoples Academy have a full school field trip to Elmore State Park. The students climb the mountain, stack firewood for the park, and spend the day building trust and strong relationships that fuel the rest of the year.
Firetruck Pull
Congratulations to the Stowe High GSA that competed in the Outright Vermont Annual Firetruck Pull. The event is an annual fundraiser for Outright Vermont to raise money for their mission to advocate for and support LGBTQ+ youth across the state.
