Sierra School Scoop
May 8 - May 12, 2023
Principal's Message...
Dear Sierra Families,
Unfortunately several events that were supposed to happen this week had to be postponed due the weather not cooperating with us. The Fun Run will happen Friday, May 12th from 2-3pm, and we will be looking at a future date to reschedule Campus Clean Up Day-perhaps early August to get Sierra School ready for the new year.
Again, there is a LOT going on over the next few weeks, so please make sure to read any announcements and newsletters thoroughly. We have our Family Fun Night Friday, May 12th from 5:30-7:30, and Open House is right around the corner on the evening of May 18th-you can visit the MP room for our Art Showcase at 5:30, with classrooms being open at 6:00pm.
We look forward to seeing you at these fun events.

Library News
Hello Dragons!
Time for a fun finish to an amazing year in the library! This week was the last week to check books out. All books are due back May 12th. The first class to return all of their books will receive brownies! For classes that return/pay for all their books by May 12th, they will receive a small reward as well. Our Literati Book fair has arrived and we will be busy getting set up for sales. All classes will be able to preview the book fair on the 11th and 12th. Fliers will be going home with information regarding the new company and how to purchase gift cards for students to use at the fair. Our fair will run from May 15th-19th, sales will happen during recess, scheduled class library times, after school until 2:30 (Mon) 3:30 (Tues-Fri), and during Open House. Below is the link for setting up gift cards for students to use at the book fair. Thank you all for your support. Remember, good things happen when you read!

Did you know that some kids have a hard time transitioning to summer? That’s right! Even if they aren’t aware of it, many kids thrive on routine and predictability of the school day, connection to friends, teachers and staff as well as the stimulation that school provides. While a restful break from school is so vital, it can also be a rough transition for some little ones. Here are some tips to make the transition smooth:
Discuss and review any summer plans with your family and post a calendar of trips or activities for everyone to see.
Implement a new daily schedule or routine to give kids a sense of structure and security.
Keep boredom at bay! Give kiddos new activities or tasks to keep them busy and their brains engaged in learning. This could be new household responsibilities, a trip to the library or a museum, an art or crafts activity or an exercise or sports challenge.
Keep the play dates and visits with family and friends going if your kids are seeking connection. Summer is the perfect time to plan sleepovers, campouts and play dates. Exchange contact information ahead of time with school families or friends so you are ready for those summer play dates!
If kids are really missing school, have them practice their math facts or give them reading or spelling challenges. You could even have THEM play the teacher and give you or their stuffed animals a lesson.
Happy May!

This month our skill will be track and field. With these activities it is very important that students have closed toed shoes and water.
Transitional kindergarten to second grade students will be warming up, doing stretches, running activities, and games. Students will start with a lap around the cones and that stretch from head to toe. Our next activity will involve sprints in six groups. Waiting our turn and staying in the lines. First and Second grade students will learn how to throw a pool noodle javelin. Following a water break we will be doing skips, slides, trots, and animal fun in groups of six. Finally we will be playing duck duck goose as our cooldown.
Third to fifth grade students will be completing stretching, sprinting, throwing a pool noodle javelin, and playing bulldog. Students will start with a lap around the cones and that stretch from head to toe. Our next activity will involve sprints in six groups. Students will be rearranged by speed each heat to sprint against similar speed students. Then we will practice throwing the pool noodle javelin and cleaning our room of pool noodles. After a water break students will then divide into four groups for a six to eight person relay race. Finally we will be playing bulldog as our cooldown activity.
