Pecatonica #321 Curriculum Corner

Beginning May 29, all office in the Pecatonica School District will be conducting business during our new summer hours. Offices will be open Monday-Thursday from 6:30 am - 5:00 pm. All buildings, including the District Office, will be closed on Fridays.

At the special Board Meeting on Monday, May 1, the Pecatonica Board of Education seated three new members: Mr. Kyle Haugh, Mrs. Alicia Piper, and Mrs. Jamie Countryman.

Officers were also appointed to the new Board. Mr. Bob Ackerman was appointed to office of Board President, Mr. David Huttenlocher was appointed the new Vice-President, and Mr. Brent Massingill was appointed to the office of Board Secretary.

We welcome the new members to the board and thank all Board members for their willingness to serve the students, staff, and families of PCUSD #321.

Congrats to High School Math Teacher Mark Ornatek! We thank him for his 20 years of dedicated service to the students of our district. Enjoy your well deserved retirement Mr. O!!!

Students in Mrs. Berg's Big History class have been learning about different civilizations and empires throughout the year. Students were given 20 minutes to recreate the empire's main structure out of materials available in the classroom. They had some pretty excellent results!

ACES (Academic Challenge in Engineering & Science) State Competition Results: 36 schools competed in our division and PHS took 3rd place as a team!!!!

This is an award which recognizes the following outstanding qualities: leadership, a positive attitude toward learning, a desire for improvement, enthusiasm about school, being helpful to others, and involvement in extracurricular activities. Students are nominated for Student of the Month by one or more of the staff at Pecatonica High School. They may win this honor only once per year. Students were honored through announcements and received a certificate at the beginning of the Board of Education meeting on Monday, May 15th.

Ms. Caroline Martin (ELA teacher) was nominated as 97 WZOK's Teacher of the Week the week of May 19th. In addition to being interviewed, Ms. Martin received a cake and a gift certificate to a local day spa. Congratulations, Ms. Martin!!! Read her story here!!!

At the beginning of the 2023-24 school year, students received incentives for showing growth, achieving their goals, and for having regular attendance during MAP testing sessions. Some of the incentives included "fun days' during MAP testing, Hat Days, and others.

At the end of the year, students at each grade level who achieved met these achievements were put into a drawing for a special surprise. The following students were selected for a day of bowling and pizza with Mr. King at Uptown Lanes in Byron:

It is that time of year again where PES and PHS collaborate to create monster art! Mrs. Wenstrom’s 3rd graders drew their own imaginary monsters while in Art with Mrs. Hamblock. From there, Mrs. Krantz’s Art 3 students made them come to life by creating a sculpture or stuffed animal monster. Please click here and see the results!
