Bringing the Farm to Your Table
We've heard that buying local and eating fresh fruits and vegetables are important for us and our communities. Why not put those both together and check out your local farmer's market? If you aren't exactly sure what to expect when you get there or even how to start, here are the six most important things to remember for bringing a piece of the farm back to your table.
Food Navigators at the Markets!
Your nutrition facilitators will be at farmers markets this summer as Food Navigators. We will be providing resources on nutrition education including recipes and tastings. Food Navigators can also assist you in effectively using your food dollars. This can be done through tours of the market that can include introductions to vendors and tips on selecting and storing produce. We will be at the Saginaw, Tawas, and Oscoda farmers markets throughout the summer. For more information on these markets, check out their websites:

Fresh Summer Foods
Farmers markets are a great place to find a variety of foods. You can find new and old favorites. Not sure how to serve a certain food or when it is in season? Ask the farmer! They are great for tips and ideas on what they grow. Check out this article on how to talk to the farmer, what's in season, and how to shop at the farmers market.
