2022-23 COVID Safe Schools Plan
The Board reviewed and approved the 2022-23 COVID Safe Schools Plan. The LASD Board of Trustees encourages all families to familiarize themselves with the protocols for the school year.
Summary of COVID-19 Protocols for the 2022-23 School Year
Stay up-to-date on vaccinations and boosters. We encourage all families to get their children vaccinated and boosted against COVID-19. For more information, click here.
Check your child for symptoms every day and keep them home when sick. It is essential that you check your student for symptoms every day before coming to school. If your child is exhibiting any COVID-like symptoms, please keep them home and get them tested immediately. The health of our community continues to depend on everyone staying home when they are having symptoms of any kind.
Notify your school secretary if your child tests positive for COVID-19.
Masks are recommended indoors. While masks are no longer required on campus, per the California Department of Health, masking indoors is recommended to prevent the spread of illness.
LASD will provide antigen tests for those who exhibit symptoms. Per State and County guidelines, we will no longer conduct weekly PCR testing. Instead, we are shifting to at-home antigen testing when symptomatic and when returning from school breaks. It is expected that families use antigen tests whenever students display symptoms, feel ill, or are generally unwell. At all times, our school sites will have home tests available for students and staff who are exhibiting symptoms consistent with COVID-19.
Please test your student for COVID-19 after school breaks. LASD will provide antigen home COVID-19 tests to students and staff to test prior to their return to school after school breaks. If you test positive, please report the results by notifying your school secretary.
Check the LASD COVID-19 Dashboard for case notifications at your school site. At this stage of the pandemic, we must assume we are in close contact with COVID-positive individuals every day. LASD will maintain updated case rates at school sites on a weekly basis on our COVID-19 tracker, will send school-wide notifications at times of high transmission rates per CDPH guidelines, and group notifications with 3 or more related cases.

Summer Projects in Our Schools
Over the summer, LASD made a few improvements to our schools for student learning and safety.
Technology
For many years, our generous and active school PTAs have funded student and teacher technology. The Board agreed to take over the funding of technology to improve student access and equity across grade levels and schools in technology. Our technology replacement plan for the 2022-23 school year is complete and the district has begun purchasing the new equipment. Other technology improvements to ensure seamless communications systems were completed this summer as well.
Safe Routes to School
Student safety is a top priority in LASD. This summer we improved our parking lot signage and painted striping for safer traffic flow.
Deep Cleaning
To kick off the school year smoothly, LASD completed a thorough deep clean to all facilities on all of our campuses. We thank our incredible maintenance team for their hard work to make our schools sparkle on the first day of school and all year long.
For more information, check out item H.1. on our agenda online.
State Budget Update
The Board received a report about 2022-23 state budget for schools. LASD will receive one-time funding this year to support specific programs and services including to support the arts, student achievement and the State's new Extended Learning Opportunities Program. Although these one-time funds are welcome news, future financial challenges for California's schools still exist, including inflation and increasing retirement benefits costs. LASD is entering the 2022-23 school year with a strong fiscal position to continue providing the excellent academic programs and instruction our community expects from our schools. In future meetings, the Board will discuss a multi-year expenditure plan for state funds. For more information, check out item H.2. on our online agenda.
