A Note From the Guidance Department

Traditionally, during the month of November, we all take time to give thanks. We want to express our gratitude to the Shawnee community for the continuous support and commitment to enhance learning experiences for our students. Thank you to our staff for your dedication and efforts to continue the tradition of excellence within our school by providing our students with knowledge, love, and a safe learning environment. Thank you to our families for having faith in Shawnee to meet the needs of our students. Together, we create a community that is devoted to helping our students grow and succeed. We wish you all a safe and happy holiday season. Go Tribe!

Fall Sports

From Mr. Steve Owen, Athletic Director

We as a school and community are very excited and proud of the accomplishments of all our fall athletes. As we prepare to send our fourth sport to the State Championships on Saturday, we wanted to take a moment to recognize our other State Championship individuals and teams from the fall season:

• Alora Patel, Girls Tennis

• Girls Cross Country Team; Kate Carson, Savannah Hohe, Tayma Jmiai, Aitana Lopez Quintela, Jenna Stump, Molly Stump, Alaina Williams

• Noah Williams, Boys Cross Country

Congratulations to these individuals and teams on their tremendous accomplishments this season!

Boys Soccer Team

Good luck to the boys soccer team as they battle for the State Championship tomorrow night. The game will be played at the Lower.com Field in Columbus; kick-off is at 7p.m. There will be a “Black Out” theme so please wear black. There will be another Spirit Bus going to Columbus tomorrow for the State Soccer Match. Sign ups are in the Athletic Office. Bus will depart from the jock lot at 4:00. There is no cost to ride the bus but you will need to purchase a ticket online prior to boarding the bus. Any questions, stop by the Athletic Office. Send off for the team will be at 1:45 in the jock lot. Go Tribe!

Parent-Teacher Conferences

Tuesday, November 15th: 4:00pm-7:15pm

Parents are be able to schedule appointments online by going to the High School webpage on limashawnee.com and clicking on the High School Parent Teacher conferences link in the Menu. This will direct you to a Google Spreadsheet. Click on the link for the teacher(s) with whom you wish to make an appointment and provide the required information. A confirmation email will be sent to you once a conference is scheduled. Please save this confirmation email! You will need to use this confirmation email if you need to cancel or change your appointment time.

Conferences with your students’ guidance counselor can be scheduled by going to the Guidance Web Page on limashawnee.com, choosing High School from the Schools drop down tab, choosing High School Guidance/Guidance Website from the Menu, and then choosing the box to “Book an appointment” with the appropriate counselor.

Pen Pals with Elmwood & Maplewood

Starting this fall, our high school students have been connected to an Elmwood or Maplewood student and became pen pals. Our high school students received their first letter on November 9th and wrote letters back to the new elementary friend. The students will exchange letters three times before they get to meet at our Conenctions with Elmwood & Maplewood event in the spring. We are excited to build these connections with our elementary students!

Wellness Day

We had Shawnee High School's second annual Wellness Day! During an extended Connections period, on November 2nd, students were with a group participating in an activity that promoted personal wellness. All activities were led by our high school staff. Activites were ranging from yoga & meditation, relaxation stations, knitting, a visit with furry friends from the Humane Society, nature walks, flag football, cornhole, nail salon, and more!

National Honor Society Tutoring

Need help on homework? Need help studying for a test? Need help getting caught up? Our NHS students are here to help you! Tutoring tables are every Tuesday and Thursday after school until 3:30 pm in the GIC at no cost.

NHS Tutoring is now also offered during the school day on Tuesdays and Thursdays! See your school counselor for more information.

Shawnee High School Alumni Scholarship

A new scholarship was created to benefit our seniors, starting with the Class of 2022: The Lima Shawnee Alumni-Legacy Scholarship Fund.

Trying to find a way to give back during the holiday season? Consider participating in Giving Tuesday on November 29th and donate to the Lima Shawnee Alumni-Legacy Scholarship Fund. If you are interested in donating to the fund, please click here and follow them on Facebook at Lima Shawnee Scholarship Fund for updates and more information.

We appreciate all efforts to pay it forward to our seniors. Thank you for leaving your legacy on our community.

Visit Request Form

Shawnee High School permits students two days each year for college visitations, career experiences or military recruitment procedures. For an approved school absence in relation to college/military/career visits, students should complete this form at least two days prior to the date of the requested visitation. Students are expected to confer with teachers prior to the visitation in order to arrange for make up work. Students are not permitted to take college visitations after the first week in May.

Students must take the following steps in order to make a college/career/military visitation on school days:

1. Arrange the visit with the college
2. Complete the Google form on the guidance website under Senior Important Information.
3. Wait for confirmation/approval from guidance (through school email).
4. Confer with each teacher prior to the visit in order to arrange for make up work.
5.Bring a paper or email confirmation of the visit from the college to school counselor.
