Thank you all for your support. This new process has been so successful for everyone. Please stay on the inside of the blue cones on the blacktop and wait for your child. They will be waiting by their grade level marker. This keeps our walkways open for students walking home or to the Boys and Girls Club.

Our basketball season will be ending soon. Thanks to all students who are participating to make this season great. See the schedule below for more information about dates and times.

Feel free to come to any meeting anytime. PTO meets in the library. There are so many reasons to join PTO.

Many parents fear that their role in a PTO group will be to solicit fundraising donations from community members, going door-to-door until a goal is reached. This just isn’t the case. While parents are always welcome to offer new ideas for school fundraising campaigns, and can even chair a given fundraising campaigns in some districts, that’s not the primary goal of the PTO. Parents aren’t expected to be fundraisers. They’re expected to be members, supporters, volunteers, and proud parents working for the benefit of all students in the district. Please consider joining us, you don't have to commit to coming every week.

The next meeting is February 15th at 5:00 PM.

We are so grateful to everyone who continues to donate and support our community school. Hi Meridian Elementary Families!

Did you know that the Tools in the Toolbox are not just for your students? The philosophy and mindset behind each of our tools is beneficial to all people, not just kids. One of the ways that children learn how to self-regulate and to have a healthy balance of emotions is to have a care giver that co-regulates with them during times of distress.

That can look as simple as a parent who stays calm and helps the child process through a difficult and frustrating situation rather than escalating and becoming frustrated along with the child. I encourage you to check out the Tools of Toolbox on the Meridian Elementary website under the counselor services and explore using them for yourself.

When to keep your student home from school.

• Fever greater than 100 degrees. Students can return 24 hours after being fever free without fever reducing medications.
• Vomiting or Diarrhea- Students should stay home for 24 hours without vomiting or diarrhea to make sure they can keep liquids down.
• Sore throat. If students are diagnosed with strep throat, they should stay home until they are given antibiotics and fever free.
• Persistent or new cough. A student should stay home if they have a new onset persistent cough in which they are coughing so much it interferes with them participating in class or disrupts their classmates. Students may return when cough is no longer disruptive or cleared by a health care provider.

Parents, please make sure your student is coming to school with a coat. They should also have gloves and a hat. Make sure students are not wearing pants with holes in them. Dressing in layers is helpful so students can adjust. Students are outside often due to our school having many outside only doors.

This time of year, we can have a cold rain or snow. Make sure you and your students are also being careful on any cement or blacktop surfaces please watch your step. It is a good idea to keep up with the weather, so your student is properly dressed and in case we have any snow days.

Attention Parents: Report cards will be coming out two weeks after the start of the new semester in January 2024. To make sure we have the correct Power School address please note the following:

1. The email that will be used to send report cards to parents is the “First person to be contacted” email AND the “Second person to be contacted” email on the “Household” tab. These emails come from the “Update Contact Information” form in SchoolForms. These are the emails you will want to make sure you have updated. 😊
1. Emailed report cards will be sent to the first two contacts. In cases of separation/divorce, this allows both parents to receive the information (assuming they are one of the first two contacts).
2. If a parent does not have a legal right to their child’s educational records, the parent should not be listed as a contact on the “Household” tab. If the parent is listed on the “Household” tab as one of the first two contacts, they will receive the email.

Continue to encourage your students to pick up lost clothes. This time of year, clothes need to be picked up quickly or they can get wet, frozen, and/or ruined. We will regularly be donating left items. Please come and look it is overflowing with clothes and lunchboxes. It is outside so you can come and check it anytime.

Did you know that Fridays are spirit days? This is your chance to wear spirit wear like school t-shirts or school colors. Our colors are blue and yellow. Let's show our trailblazer pride.

Our district has partnered with tutor.com. This is a free online tutoring service offered by the district for students in grades 3-12. This service has individualized help for tutoring and homework. Visit the districts website for more information.
