Principal's Desk
Dear Parents,
Our teachers will have a professional Day on February 15 so no students will be present that day. Then on Tuesday, February 16 we will have yearbook pictures taken for students in clubs and organizations.
Several have asked if they may send valentines in with their students this year. They must be at school by Monday, February 8 so they can be properly sanitized and please do not send any treats in. We will not be able to pass them out. If your child brings in Valentines they must be sure to include all of their classmates.
Our World's Finest Chocolate fundraiser is a huge success thanks to all of your hard work. Please get all of your money turned in by Friday February 5th so PTO can begin to put their plans in place to better support your children and teachers.
Thanks again for all you do at home to support your child's educational progress at home, such as nightly reading, practicing math facts and sight words
Also, again, we are beginning to transition away from the Remind App to the new FCSC Connect App. You can download the app for free on both Google Play or the Apple App Store.

We have been really fortunate to keep mostly COVID free but we cannot let our guard down yet. Please continue your wellness checks at home. If you think you or your child has been a direct contact of someone who has tested positive for COVID we need a copy of their test results for the State reports we have to send in. Also, if your child is absent for any reason please call in each day to keep us updated. Please see the district's new policy for contact tracing below. If your child is a close contact for a classmate we will still notify you but your child will not need to quarantine unless they start to develop symptoms. However, if your child is a close contact with a family member or a social contact they will still be asked to quarantine.

Miss Fee's Classroom News
Miss Fee's class has been hard at work developing their nonfiction skills. Over the past month, they have been hard at work building skills that can help them when reading nonfiction books. Students worked in groups looking through a variety of nonfiction texts trying to identify a variety of text features to help them when reading nonfiction books. They learned how to read a variety of diagrams, maps, charts, graphs, and tables and apply the data and information to the topic of their nonfiction text.
In math, Miss Fee's class has been working on building multiplication and division facts as well! They are preparing to use these skills in word problems, fractions, measurement, and geometry. They are loving the challenge of memorizing these facts to excel in timed tests to show their math fact mastery.
In writing, the students are looking forward to their upcoming writing assignments involving research and using their opinions. They have written a variety of essays this year. The essays are continuing to enforce the RACE strategy, writing in complete sentences, sentence variety, and making their writing flow to compose a final draft.
In science, students are beginning to investigate how water and climate impact our Earth and how it differs around the world. They are discussing the different properties of water, how water moves, and how water changes states.
The students are having an incredible year!
Mr. Stanley's Sixth Grade news
As we enter February, we are now racing at full speed into the 3rd grading period. We have covered a lot of material so far, but have quite a bit to cover to be ready for middle school by the end of the school year.
In math, we have spent a lot of time working with Algebraic concepts such as solving equations and inequalities. As we finish up with Algebra, we will move into finding the area of complex shapes, then finish February finding the volumes of rectangular prisms. If your child still struggles with multiplication and division facts, please help them study these each evening as this will only make math easier for them in the future.
In reading, we continue to work on central idea, text and graphic features, and comprehension of text. A great way to do this that the students enjoy participating in, is called reader’s theater. Reader’s theater allows students to have repeated exposure to the text that results in improved vocabulary, comprehension, fluency, and retention of the text. Wearing masks makes it a little more challenging, but our students sure were up to the task.
We have also been meeting with a local sheriff’s detective, Chad Blaes, about making appropriate choices, peer pressure skills, and preventing teen substance abuse. He has also been discussing how important it is to listen to parents and teachers so they can help them guide their choices for their future.
Mrs. Day's Classroom News
This month second, third, and fourth graders have started new book series. Third and fourth grade are reading The Spiderwick Chronicles by: Tony Diterlizzi and Holly Black. Second grade is reading the Fly Guy books by Tedd Arnold. With this said, we will be sending out newsletters about each chapter/book for their classes to read written by them. Each newspaper article will cover all of the important aspects of the book such as setting, main idea, main character, problem, solution, and we can’t leave out all of the fun artwork completed by the students. Kindergarten and first grade are continuing to develop phonics and fluency skills. The growth made by each of these students has been phenomenal and I am so proud of each and every one of them. Give them a hive five when you see them in the hall way for all of their hard work!
