Applying For An Out-of-District Transfer
The FCPS Department of Student Services is now receiving requests for student enrollments in schools outside of the student's home attendance district for the 2023-2024 school year. Requests to enroll in a school that is not a student's home school district must be made by parents/legal guardians. Guidelines for requests are outlined in FCPS Regulation 400-15.
- Parents/guardians must apply for an out-of-district enrollment annually. Therefore, if your child is currently attending a school out of your attendance district, you must complete and submit an application if you would like to request that your child remain at that school.
- If a school's enrollment is over capacity, it is necessary to restrict out-of-district student enrollments in that school. This includes students whose daycare providers are located outside their assigned attendance area.
- 2023-2024 Closed Schools List
- Out-of-district requests submitted as the result of school redistricting by the Board of Education may be denied.
Parents or guardians who wish to request an out-of-district enrollment for the 2023-2024 school year must apply by completing the out-of-district application. The applications are available in English and Spanish. The application can also be found online at www.fcps.org under the "For Families and Students" tab. The application window is open until March 1, 2023. Families will be notified of the decision by April 1, 2023.
Middletown Campus Feasibility Study Update
Kids Heart Challenge
Hi Myersville ES Families,
Hello Myersville Elementary Families!
Kids Heart Challenge is here! We need your help to accomplish our goal of having 100% of our families to know Hands-Only CPR, and you can help us by registering your child and spreading the word and completing Finn’s Mission!
Our goal is to have all students register online and complete Finn’s Mission. They’ll even earn a free wristband for registering! Plus, the classrooms with the most students registered will win!
Here’s how you can help:
- Complete Finn’s Mission: Watch a 2-minute video to know Hands-Only CPR, spot the signs of a stroke and more! Our goal is to have 40 students complete! We have 3 so far!
- Share with friends and family through social media, text and/or email
Thank you for your support doing the Kids Heart Challenge! We can’t wait to have the BEST YEAR EVER!
Learning at Home Days for Inclement Weather
Frederick County Public Schools (FCPS) has been approved by the Maryland State Department of Education to implement up to three virtual instructional days in lieu of systemwide closure during inclement weather. While not necessarily the first option, the Learn @ Home days provide FCPS flexibility in responding to various weather emergencies. In developing the FCPS plan, our goal is to: mitigate disruption to learning mid-year; minimize additional days that often need to be added at the end of the school year; and keep students connected to learning in the event of an extended closure. Additional information can be found here: https://fcps.ezcommunicator.net/edu/frederick/upload/0/18781.pdf
As a result, our school has been engaged in planning and preparation for this possibility, to ensure full readiness if a virtual instruction day were to be implemented. Here’s what you need to know and how you can help your child prepare:
Instructional Activities: All assignments will be independent and self-paced (asynchronous). You can expect approximately 20-30 minutes per subject area that students can complete at a time that works for them or the household. Assignments and activities will be review and practice, not new content. In many cases, students will have a choice in selecting the instructional activity. Please note that the design of these instructional days does not require students to follow a typical school or “live” virtual schedule.
All assignments will be posted in Schoology, for digital access or for a copy of printed packet that will also be available.
Assignments will include instructional activities aligned to the curriculum, as provided by FCPS or assigned by your child’s teacher.
Grades K-2: The default format for PreK–2 is a printed packet, which will be sent home with your child. For students with access at home, assignments will also be posted in Schoology and may include options for accessing digital instruction through programs such as i-Ready and Lexia.
Grades 3-5: FCPS Chromebooks will be distributed to your child prior to the implementation of a virtual learning day. Assignments will be posted in Schoology. Printed packets will be available if requested by student or parent/guardian.
Attendance: Students will be counted as “present” by logging into Schoology on the virtual learning day or turning in assignments upon return to school. Students who were unable to access the instructional activities during the virtual learning day will be provided with additional time.
Support: During a Learn @ Home Day, our staff will be available to provide “live” support to students during the day via Google Meet, in an Office Hours format. This is optional for students and not required. See schedule below. In addition, students needing support can also send an email to their teacher, call the front office, or send their teacher a message through Schoology. All staff will be responding to communication via these methods throughout the school day.
Please note that in the event of a virtual instructional day, FCPS will provide communication and notice well in advance of any predicted inclement weather to ensure that schools, students, and families are aware of this possibility and are fully prepared. Again, this communication is to assist in planning and preparation for this possibility that may be utilized in the future based on a multitude of factors. I will keep you fully informed as we move forward in planning.
