MAPT Regional Safety Conference
Our Transportation Department attended a regional safety conference last week and were trained in various workshops. Trainings included:
- Distractions Training - Distracted driving continues to be the leading cause of school bus accidents throughout the United States.
- Basics of De-escalation - Bus drivers learned ways to create a positive, supportive environment through communication as well as learn to de-escalate potential crisis situations.
- Case Study - Vehicle Collision with Student Pedestrians. This workshop explored risk mitigation, error chains, and causal factors in a fatal accident that occurred in Rochester, IN on October 30, 2018, in which four children were struck while crossing the road.
- Special Education A-Z - This workshop covered everything they needed to know about transporting students with special needs on regular ed buses as well as special education buses.
Our bus drivers also competed in a skills competition and showed an excellent array of talent!
- 1st place Conventional Bus - Donna Dumas
- 2nd place Conventional Bus - Rick Ryan
- 3rd place Conventional Bus - Mike Factor
