Happy Holidays...Tis the season for colds and flu!
Elementary aged children can easily spread and pick up germs and viruses. If your child has developed symptoms or has been sent home from school with symptoms that are of a concern, such as Flu (seasonal or Covid), Strep Throat or Hand Foot and Mouth aka HFM or Coxsackie virus, which are all communicable illnesses, please contact your Pediatrician for advice and /or evaluation before returning to school.
Checklist for returning to school:
· Must be symptom free / fever free - without the aid of any over the counter medications such as Acetaminophen (Tylenol) or Ibuprofen (Motrin or Advil)
· Slept well the night before (fatigue or sleep deprivation may have a negative effect on your child's ability to successfully get through the day)
· Eaten a healthy breakfast- being hungry can lead to stomach aches, headaches and fatigue
· Well hydrated-dehydration can lead to headaches as well as contributing to illnesses
A Dr's note documenting illness and /or medical evaluation must be provided to school in order to medically excuse any absences
Please Notify Nurse Mudge if your child has been diagnosed with any communicable illnesses, such as strep / covid / seasonal flu or has any prolonged absences due to illness.
Eating a good balance of healthy foods is strongly recommended, please remember to send in a healthy snack for a midday break (please avoid chips and cookies- which can lead to blood sugar spikes and belly aches)
As the climate changes and we head into Winter months, please be sure your child comes to school with winter gear for outside recess and breaks
Students are encouraged to bring a refillable water bottle to prevent dehydration and skin irritations and /or chapped lips.
If you have any questions, please call Nurse Mudge at MES (781) 319-3985
