You Are Beautiful!
SLPC Youth Newsletter - March 2019
Jubilee 2019 Update
On the 4th weekend of this past February, I had the pleasure to take four of our SLPC Youth to the annual Jubilee Conference held by the Coalition for Christian Outreach (CCO). Jubilee is a gathering of thousands of college students learning how to worship God with their whole lives. There is no other conference like it in the United States. Although they were a small band of high-schoolers, the seriousness and academic-nature of the various speakers did not overwhelm them; I believe it only deepen their roots with the Father, as well as, provided an excellent opportunity for self-reflection.
Sin is so normal for us. It's the water we swim in. It is like a bad smell that goes everywhere, but eventually you get used to it and stop smelling it, yet it's still there.
Throughout the weekend, I heard various prayer requests that include turning from the cares of this world, and fixing our eyes on Jesus; growing in our faith that includes not just knowing God's will but doing it; as well as, recognizing that God's creation (which includes us) is beautiful, and that we have a duty to guard the dignity of His glory. The awareness of who they are and who they want to become shows growth and a desire to escape sin and temptation, so I ask that we continue to pray for the Holy Spirit to protect them and give them wisdom.
We know the end of the story, so whatever we're going through, have faith in Divine Timing, and live the restoration, don't anticipate it or we will have regrets.
Calling Anna, Bethany, Cole and Dylan "youth" is an understatement. After having time to converse with them, and see thier attentiveness at Jubilee; these young adults are a gift to our SLPC community that we will sorely miss. However, it is a blessing to know that Jesus still reigns supreme within them, and there is a bright future for the Kingdom. It will be exciting to see where God leads these feet!!!
"How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!" (Romans 10:15)
Save the Date: February 21-23, 2020

Youth Culture Today
- Decision making among our youth
- Marijuana and brain development
- Reasons for increase in suicide rate
- Teaching our youth God's gift of sex and sexuality
Check out the latest Youth Culture Matters podcast entitled "Life, Sexuality, and a Christian Worldview" with Nancey Pearcey. With the rapid growth and changing of ideals in our culture, and schools, we need to arm ourselves with, and teach our children, a more biblical and moral perspective of the gifts of life and sexuality. It'll be worth it!!!

Sunday School and Power Up!
Sunday School
The middle school is journeying through the What's Up! study during Sunday School. This Spring, we will take a closer look at the heart conditions behind our behavior, both sinful behavior and godly living.
High school students are invited, and encouraged, to come to Sunday School as we are continue our venture through John Stott's Basic Christianity, and discussing the various historical facts on which Christianity stands. The goal is that this will enhance our faith in the Gospel and better prepare us for whatever obstacles await in our futures.
Power Up
Power Up! is concluding a 5-week series entitled "Deep" this month. The series focuses on how we can grow stronger, more confident, and deeper in our relationship with Christ. Great job to all the leaders who taught a lesson!!!
Next month we will being a 3-week series called "Over It." During this time, we will exploring the power of forgiveness, and how it changes ourselves, as well as, those others. This is a character trait that is so hard to exhibit, but as stated in Colossians 3, "the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive."
Our youth group meets on the 1st and 3rd Sundays of the month at 5 pm. We start with a family-style dinner and casual conversation. Come join us!!!
