Principal's Message
Thank you to our teachers and families for what I would classify as two successful nights of family-teacher conferences. I personally enjoyed the opportunity to connect with families and to hear how their student's year is going. While everyone's a bit more tired after evenings like this, I find it so valuable to spend a few minutes in community with one another to help build relationships, see the environment your student spends much of their day in and develop rapport with one another.
Many families have asked me for updates on how, or if, the district will approach making up lost instructional time due to January's inclement weather. At this time, I have not been given any new information. As soon as I have any new information I'll make sure to share with families.
Best,
Mr. Roosevelt
Weekly Updates
Forecasting for 2024-2025 Is Next Week
It’s hard to believe we’ve reached that point in the year when we need to start collecting forecasting requests (also known as course requests) for the 2024-2025 school year. During Advisory on Tuesday, February 13th, current 6th and 7th grade students will complete a google survey indicating which classes they would like to request for next school year.
In preparation for Tuesday, we’re encouraging families to review this da Vinci Electives Course Guide with their student.
Black History Month Door Decoration Competition
During advisory this week, we launched our Black History Month Door Decorating Contest. It will be so great to the creative work each advisory class leans into and generates. We will make sure to send home photos to families as they get finalized.
Happy Lunar New Year - 2024
The Lunar New Year begins tomorrow. We are excited to welcome in the Year of the Dragon. For all our families who celebrate the Lunar New Year, I wish you joy and happiness as the new year begins. In reading up on the significance the Dragon holds, I was reminded of its auspicious nature as an extraordinary creature that is unparalleled in talent and excellence. If that doesn't describe da Vinci students, I don't know what does!
Go Dragons!

McDaniel Youth Softball and Baseball-Sign Ups
Is your child interested in registering for a youth baseball or softball team this Spring? Now is the time to get your child registered for Spring ball!
The attached handout was created by Friends of Baseball/Girls Lead Softball to help families
1. Identify which league(s) their child is eligible to register for. Leagues usually require that players either live or attend school within their league boundaries.
2. Locate youth league websites. This is where parents will find links to register their child(ren).
3. Understand how to access financial assistance. Most leagues will provide fee assistance/scholarships for families for whom cost would be a barrier.
We hope to see you soon to PLAY BALL!
