A Message from Mr. Hawkins
Parents and Guardians,
As we come to the end of another school year, I would like to say thank you to our students and staff. You have shown a tremendous amount of courage over the past few years. This school year included remote learning, pandemic protocols, and different phases of construction. But we pushed through by ensuring that we returned to "normal" as much as possible. Our students participated in clubs and activities, games and dances, and walked the hallways learning and laughing with their friends. Congratulations to our graduates, and to our students next year, let us set a goal to return even stronger and more determined to learn and develop to the best of our abilities.
On Sunday, May 29th, we celebrated the academic careers of 278 of our students in Galesburg CUSD No. 205, with our commencement ceremony on Van Dyke Field, at F&M Bank Stadium. In front of family and friends, 260 members of the GHS Class of 2022 participated in the ceremony. The weather was not a deterrent to a great day of tears, cheers, and proud moments. Thank you to the Board of Education and the Central Office administration for helping make this day a success. Here are some notable facts of the day. The temperature was 84 degrees Fahrenheit, and the wind speed was steady from the South at 16 mph, with wind gusts of 26-30 mph. The time of the ceremony was 1 hour and 20 minutes.
Thank you to our retirees: Laurie Aten, Marla Clay, Mary Gehring, Jeff Houston, Ross Johnson, and Kathleen Lee. Together you have served the students of the Galesburg community for over 175 years. You have touched the lives of many staff members, students, and families, throughout the community. We wish you health and happiness.
In Silver and Gold,
Mr. Hawkins
