Discovery PTO News

During conferences we will be having our Fall Book Fair in the multipurpose room. We are in need of volunteers to help check people out and keep the displays organized. Even if you are only able to volunteer for a half hour, we would really appreciate it. To volunteer, please visit the SignUpGenius link here.

The annual Fall Dance is just around the corner! Kids are welcome to come in their costumes, play games to win candy, and dance to the DJ with their friends. Last year we had a phenomenal turnout and expect a similar crowd this year. We need help with setting up games, running games and handing out candy to kids, and help with concession sales. We also need candy donations to hand out as prizes for the games during the dance. Bags of candy can be dropped off at the front office, or during conferences we will have a bin at the Book Fair as well. Thank you for helping make this another fun event for our Discovery community!

The next Discovery Dine Out night will be Tuesday, October 24th. Discovery PTO will receive 10% of all sales from 4-8 PM at the Culver’s on Louise by Home Depot. Thank you in advance for supporting the PTO and our Discovery community!

The Discovery Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) includes every parent and staff member at Discovery. Each month the PTO meets to plan events and make decisions about how we can make Discovery a great community for our students and staff.

Any staff and/or parents that attend (excluding the PTO Board members) will be entered into a drawing for a $10 gift card each meeting to encourage attendance and participation. The minutes from September’s meeting can be found here.

Our monthly meetings are held at 6 PM in the Discovery Library. You are invited to attend and your participation is welcomed! We hope you will join us! PTO meetings will be at 6 PM in the Discovery Library on: October 17th, November 21st, December 19th, January 16th, March 19th, and April 16th.

Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens may be a few of Julie Andrews’ favorite things but unless you want to try and capture snowflakes that stay on your nose and eyelashes, it may be helpful to know the Discovery staff’s favorite things. In case you are looking for a gift or thank you for your child’s teacher, and/or staff person that helps make your child’s day brighter, we invited all staff to fill out a survey of their favorite things and the results can be found here.

Abby Wratz is the Discovery PTO President for 2023-2024. She and her husband Mike have two daughters, Alee (7th grader at McGovern) and Kinlee (4th grader at Discovery). During the day she works for Elgethun Capital Management in client services, although being a chauffeuer to her daughters and their activities may qualify as a part-time job as well. Abby enjoys shopping and home projects in her free time. Her favorite thing about the PTO is the community that it helps Discovery build and the relationships made.
