The Akron Preschool was presented with an Award of Excellence for receiving a Colorado Shines Level 4. The Colorado Shines program rating is a guarantee to families that your program is licensed, in good standing, and meets basic health and safety standards.

The Washington County Cattlewomen’s Association was given the opportunity to come into the Washington County Schools and speak to various classes about the importance of cattle. Each class did an activity focused on the importance of cattle and the cattle industry. Each child was sent home with beef resources and treated to ice cream!

FFA hosted their annual Barnyard Day for the school. A huge thank you to Becky Drum, Addicyn Kessinger, Dalton DeMers, Braxton DeMers, Lluvia Arteaga, Sierra Brown, Kelbi Schwartz, Molly Porteus, and Brya Kusel for bringing their animals in to share with other students.

FCCLA Leadership class made breakfast this morning. Biscuits and gravy, eggs, bacon and juice!

Mr. Dreitz hosted a Career Day with businesses from northeast Colorado for this building trades students. Eight companies attended and spoke with students about job opportunities, internships and work expectations. The students responded well and many are lined up with jobs for next year.

Thank you Mr. Dreitz for hosted this very worthwhile activity!

Last week the Akron Rams defeated the Merino Rams 11-3 in District semifinal competition. The Rams went on to play the Haxtun Bullldogs in the Championship, winning 6-1. The Rams will host the Regional tournament this weekend.

Keep working hard, Rams!! Keep it going!

Our 7th and 8th grade track athletes traveled to Holyoke on Thursday, May 4. The participants all performed well and showed great improvement over the short season.

The 8th grade girls walked away with the title of League Champions, the 8th grade boys placed 6th, the 7th grade girls placed 5th, and the the 7th grade boys took 2nd in their respective age divisions.

Great job Rams!

The Akron Lady Rams hosted their tournament Monday. Kendall Velder took 4th with a 92, Molly Porteus shot a personal best of 106, Zaya Wells showed continued improvement with a 124, and Bibi Davisson rounded out the varsity squad with a 133. The varsity team took 4th place.

The JV played well with Kendal Zimmerman winning a scorecard playoff to take 4th with a 58. Kinley Brown also won a scorecard playoff for 6th with a 59, and Haylee Roseberry shot a 72.

HS track athletes traveled to Yuma last Saturday and then to Holyoke on Monday. Several athletes had great performances.

Select athletes will travel to St. Vrain on Friday in preparation for the state meet next weekend.

Kindergarten took their annual field trip to the Denver Zoo. Despite the rainy weather, a good time was had by all.

The 5th grade class went to Burlington this week to visit the Old Town Museum. The students witnessed a can-can show, explored interactive exhibits and enjoyed a ride on the carousel.
