Greetings Central Families,

Although the Holiday Break doesn’t exactly align with the semester’s end, it does serve as a natural "halftime" and thus an opportunity to reflect and adjust. In considering the habits and behaviors that influence the student experience, generate results, and drive success, the words Stop, Start, and Keep come to mind.

Over the course of the past three years, we have narrowed our focus considerably. With these priorities in mind, we’ll use the next few weeks to consider what we must change, how we might pursue new ideas, and how we might better the things we're already doing.

For obvious reasons, this is a challenging year. Regardless, our desire to make 2021-2022 the "best year yet" remains firmly intact.

As we approach "halftime" and work to identify our glows and our grows, please recognize our ongoing appreciation for your support and partnership in discovering a better tomorrow.

Here are some at-home ideas for supporting your Rocket Reader throughout the month of December!

Tuesday, December 7th and Wednesday, December 8th

Students will be able to shop at the Book Fair during their library time.

Central staff will be caroling on Friday, December 10th. Although we will visit as many neighborhoods as possible, you can join us at the following times & locations for a guarantee to hear us sing:

• 5:15pm Park Meadows
• 6:00pm Pennsylvania Elementary
• 6:30pm Laketon Township Hall
• 7:00pm Central Elementary (soccer field pavilion)

Holiday Spirit Week

Monday, December 13 - Friday, December 17

Monday (12/13): Green & Red Day: From head to toe or just a bow. Fill our school with green and red!

Tuesday (12/14): Holiday Hair or Holiday Sock Day: Make it crazy or keep it sweet. Maybe match what’s on your feet!

Wednesday (12/15): Holiday Sweater or Holiday Hat Day: Check your closet, dresser, or floor...Wear it how it is or add more!

Thursday (12/16): Fancy Day: Wear your finest Holiday attire.

Friday (12/17): PJ Day: Wear your favorite Pajamas to school.

Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday - December 14th, 15th, 16th

Students can bring money to shop for gifts for family members. Each class will have an assigned day and time to shop. Be looking for more information from your child's teacher!

Please consider joining us (details below) at the 2nd Annual Holiday Light Show. We are excited to bring joy to the R-P community during this time, raise money for the Muskegon Rescue Mission, and have lots of fun along the way!

With the weather getting cooler, please send your child prepared with the appropriate clothing to go outside for 2 recesses during the day. The only time students do not go outside is when it rains or the temperature is below zero.

If you haven't already done so, please login to your parent portal account and complete the demographic update ASAP. This is a requirement at the beginning of each school year. If you don't have a parent portal account set up yet, please do so. Once you get the account set up, you will need to complete the demographic update. This process allows you to update emergency contacts, review technology use guidelines and the handbook, and give consent for study trips for your student. If you are having troubles with username, password, or access codes, please call the office for assistance. Attached is a document with step by step instructions for completing the demographic update and linking siblings. Thank you for giving immediate attention to this matter.

Breakfast is served in the classroom at the start of the school day.

DK/K: 11:57 - 12:27

Grade 3: 12:28 - 12:58

Grade 4: 12:59 - 1:29

We have 5 lunch monitors which makes it possible for students to have lunch in the classroom. A calm atmosphere is enjoyed by all.

Menu Changes & Supply Chain Disruptions

I hear you and I share your frustrations regarding menu changes. Unfortunately, the changes are not due to my own decision, but rather an inability to obtain the product that is originally on the menu. We are experiencing extreme supply chain disruptions, and it is becoming increasingly difficult to get the items needed to follow the menu. I notify principals of any menu changes as soon as I am aware of them; please check weekly communications from your building for the most up to date information regarding the menu.

I wish I could say it's going to get better soon, but from everything I have been hearing and everything I have been experiencing, it may even get worse before it gets better. A few manufacturers just announced that they are suspending production of entire product lines until January 2022. I appreciate your understanding as I work through these challenges. Reminder from our handbook: "Cell phones and/or texting devices can be disruptive to the educational environment. Students are not permitted to carry them during the school day. When possible, parents should communicate through school staff. If these items are brought to school and are seen, they will be taken away. Items will be held by the principal for the rest of the school year or until a parent or guardian comes to school to pick them up."
