PTO Pop-in February Newsletter
Hello, friends of Schurz Elementary! Did you know that Schurz has a vibrant PTO? Consisting of both parents of students and staff, the PTO meets monthly to plan events, fundraisers, and other activities that help support the students and staff of Schurz.
We are launching a new fundraiser this month! The PTO is selling both KWIK TRIP gift cards. The KWIK TRIP gift card can be used on ANYTHING at Kwik trip- like groceries, gas, or bakery. Best part? The cards are good at ANY Kwik trip! Purchase a card, and raise money for your student. YES, it is just that easy!
Let’s recap what the PTO has been up to so far this year:
● The Schurz Apparel order is still underway! Didn’t order the first time around? Not a problem! You can still order here:https://stores.inksoft.com/schurz/shop/cart or contact the PTO for help with ordering.
● Popcorn Fridays have been happening once a month; most recently on the 27th of January. PTO volunteers pop popcorn for each student and staff member to enjoy. It is a treat for all.
● The Scholastic Book Fair was a big success! Thanks to everyone who purchased items and the volunteers who ran the fair. The total amount raised was over $1,000. Each teacher got to choose several books to add to their classroom for free! What a wonderful way to spread the love of reading throughout the school and at home.
● Our monthly meeting was held Thursday, Jan. 19 at 3:30 pm in the Schurz Media room. We had both old and new faces! We discussed ways to use the Scholastic dollars, the Tiger-Run, the apparel orders so far, and more. Meetings are held on the 3rd Thursday of the month at 3:30 pm, unless otherwise posted. The meetings are open to all staff and parents, children are welcome to attend with a parent. We are working toward having a translator at every meeting.
The PTO can be reached at schurzpto@gmail.com if you have any questions or comments

The Watertown 4 Kids Program is a collaborative community approach where the preschool programming is conducted in private preschool centers and elementary schools located throughout the Watertown School District. Each of the classrooms has a Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction licensed kindergarten teacher and an adult assistant teacher. Watertown 4Kids sites include Douglas Elementary School, Gingerbread Preschool, Jefferson County Head Start, Lincoln STEM Elementary School, Mary Linsmeier Schools, Schurz Elementary School, and Webster Elementary School. Placement at the half-day Watertown 4Kids sites is based on a first come first serve basis. We will have room for all eligible children in the Watertown 4Kids half-day program; however, space at each site is limited. Final sites and sections will be determined by enrollment. After completing the online enrollment process, please note, you will be contacted to provide your son/daughter’s birth certificate or hospital record to verify birthdate and turn in immunization information before the start of the school year.
The Watertown Unified School District will offer Full Day 4K and Full Day 4K Bilingual options for a limited number of students. Full Day 4K students will attend 4K following the elementary school calendar, attending from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. There will be a limited number of spots available in our full-day programs. Families interested in a full-day option should indicate this on the online application. A lottery of all interested families will be held at the beginning of April and families will be notified of their placement by mid-May, 2023. If you are interested in the full-day programming, please enroll by April 7, 2023.
To be eligible for 4-year-old kindergarten, a child must be 4 years of age on or before September 1.
Families will be notified mid-May 2023 by mail of your child's 4K placement site.

If you have a child who will be turning 5 on or before September 1, 2023, he or she is eligible for our five-year-old kindergarten program.
The Watertown Unified School District is a high-quality school district. We have five elementary schools: Douglas, Lebanon LEAP, Lincoln STEM, Schurz Dual Language, and Webster, which offer a comprehensive curriculum to meet the individual needs of our learners. WUSD also offers eCampus Academy in the elementary grades. eCampus teachers and parents create an individualized learning plan for the student with a combination of comprehensive digital and hands-on, a print-based curriculum that supports “school at home”. We offer an extraordinary 4K-12 education. All of our elementary schools exceed expectations on the State Report Card. We also are excited to offer a Dual Language program at Schurz Elementary School, STEM programming at Lincoln Elementary School, and Environmental and Agricultural programming at LEAP/Lebanon Elementary School.
If you do not have online access, you can make an appointment at the Educational Services Center at 111 Dodge Street from 7:45-4:30 Monday-Friday.
Elementary principals will determine school placement and notify you in late spring. Please let us know your plans no later than March 1 for planning purposes. If you have any questions, you can contact us at 920-262-1490.
We look forward to welcoming your child to the Watertown Unified School District!
