November Newsletter
A note from the Deleon SEB
The school year is coming along, and we are excited about the upcoming Holiday Season! Sometimes children can become stressed or over-stimulated during these times. This can result in unwanted behavior and increased emotional outbursts. Colder weather and less sunlight may also contribute to feelings of sadness. Active play, a routine sleeping schedule, and planned meals can help students feel secure even if things may be changing around them. Thank you for your support! We are grateful to be part of your student's journey!

Educator Spotlight
Leslie Baker
I graduated with my Bachelor's in Elementary Education from Valley City State University. I am in my 9th year of education and starting my 5th year at Deleon. My experience teaching includes preschool, kindergarten, and first grade. First grade is my heart and passion! I have three children who keep me busy with their many activities! My favorite sport is whichever one my kids are playing. My family and I enjoy fishing, hiking, and spending summers in Wyoming, where my husband and I were born and raised until moving to Texas a little over five years ago. I have loved my Deleon family and students since we arrived! Go Dragons!Kayla Juergen
I am very excited to be here at Deleon! I am new to Victoria and have been here for a year, but it has been so much fun! I have a 4-year-old that attends Deleon, and getting to know the staff as a parent and coworker has been great! My weekends are spent with family and friends doing things outdoors, and attending monster jam events! I am currently in college to become a Speech Language Pathologist Assistant and, one day, hope to take my career in the school system even further.

I've grown up in VISD for the majority of my life. During my senior year at Victoria West, I enrolled in a teaching intern program where I could see that this was my career. After graduating, I went to Victoria College and then transferred to the University of Houston-Victoria, where I was the first in my family to earn a bachelor's degree. I worked as a teacher and then the program director for the Boys & Girls Club of Victoria. I knew I wanted to be here at DeLeon, and I'm so glad an opportunity opened for me! Four years down, and many more to look forward to! Go Dragons!
