Family Newsletter
January 23, 2023
Dear Twin Oaks Families,
Communicating with our families is a priority. We value the interactions we have with our students' parents and guardians. We have found the most efficient way to communicate information is via email and electronic newsletters. I hope you are enjoying the Smore newsletter's your child's teacher is sending to their families every Friday. They share what is happening in class and occasionally photos of students working or projects that have completed. We realize that too many emails and newsletters can be overwhelming. With this in mind Mrs. Miller and I will alternate weeks. I will continue to send the Twin Oaks Family Newsletter on Mondays every other week. Mrs. Miller will share Mrs. Miller's Counseling News on the alternating Mondays. Our classroom teachers will continue to send home their newsletters on Friday. Thank you for taking the time to read and review the information. We want our families to be aware of the amazing things that are happening at Twin Oaks Elementary.
AVID Open House: On Friday, Ms. Reed and her fifth graders hosted administrators and directors from our school district and the AVID organization. The students showcased how each of our classrooms use AVID strategies. They shared the binders, planners, interactive notebooks and student work. They explained our new focus on goal setting. Every student in our school has made a reading goal that they aspire to reach by the end of the school year. The 5th grade students were amazing as they interacted with our visitors. They were confident as they shared the information they had prepared. I have included photos of the AVID Open House below.
TOSA Fundraiser: The Hot Mama's Wings fundraiser is this Tuesday. Plan on wings for dinner and Hot Mama's Wings will generously donate 15% of your bill to Twin Oaks Elementary. You can print the flyer or show them an electronic copy.
Thank you for the care and support you provide our staff. We appreciate our community.
Ms. Denisa Taylor

School Choice Time in Eugene School District 4J
It’s School Choice Time
See what our schools offer!
In Eugene School District 4J, students may request to enroll in any school. School choice requests are accepted in an order determined by lottery.
January is school choice season: Virtual school choice visits and in-person school visits are scheduled in the month of January. 4J residents must apply between January 1 and January 31 to be included in the annual school choice lottery. Non-district residents must apply for an interdistrict transfer between March 1 and March 31 to be included in the lottery.
Who needs to apply: All students who wish to enroll in a school other than their neighborhood school must submit an application. This includes incoming siblings of current students, students who have moved out of our school neighborhood or the district and want to remain enrolled next year, and fifth grade students who want to enroll in a middle school other than their neighborhood school. Their enrollment is not automatic.
Who does not need to apply: If your student is already enrolled in our school and has not moved, you do not need to reapply to continue attending our school next year.
See our schools: If you or any of your friends are interested in exploring school choice options, all 4J schools will hold virtual visits or in-person info sessions with an opportunity to ask questions during the month of January. Additionally, the district is holding school choice information sessions on January 10 at 6pm in English and January 12 at 6 p.m. in Spanish. Visit 4j.lane.edu/choice for details.
If you know a family interested in attending Twin Oaks Elementary please share with them two events that are scheduled this month. We will host a Virtual Information Night via Zoom (link) on Wednesday, January 18th, 6:00-7:00pm. We have also scheduled a tour of our school on Thursday, January 19th, 9:00-10:00am.

Winter Weather: Be In The Know
The weather is mild right now, but winter is coming. There are several ways to find out when hazardous weather conditions close or delay schools or alter bus routes.
How to find out if there is a change:
- Receive text message from the district (if you are not currently receiving occasional text messages with important information from 4J, learn how)
- Check the district website, www.4j.lane.edu
- Follow 4J social media: Facebook, Twitter @4Jweather & @4Jschools
- Tune in to local radio and television news stations
No News = No Change. School closures and other changes are decided early in the morning and announced by all of these methods before 6:30 a.m. If schools and buses are on their regular schedules, there will NOT be an announcement.
