John Champe Knightly News
Week of August 14, 2022
One full week of summer remains!
We are getting REALLY excited! We have welcomed back counselors, new teachers, and anxiously await the majority of our staff coming home this week when teachers return to the building on Wednesday. Then, just one more week before our school's heart beats again when our students return! Remember the change to our start and end times this year! You can review the bell schedule here!
Admin Corner
School Nutrition
Students are able to purchase both breakfast and lunch at school. Breakfast starts at $2 and lunch at $3.15. You can click here to see the full price list, access the cafeteria payment portal to put money on your student's account, and check menus. Remember, the Titan payment portal is new, so you may need to create your account still; also, this is a separate account from the one you will use for school-based purchases. Click here to read more and access the free/reduced meal application.
Special Education Case Manager Meet and Greet
Parents of students receiving special education services are invited to meet their student's case manager on Friday, August 19 between 1:30-3:30pm. If you are unable to attend, do not worry! You will hear from case managers soon.
PSAT
High school students who are planning to apply to the Academies during the 2023 winter admissions cycle must have a PSAT score. The PSAT will take place October 12; however, if a student is requesting testing accommodations, that request must be submitted to the College Board by August 24, 2022.
First Day of School Information
Beginning at 8 a.m. on Monday, August 15, please sign into ParentVUE to complete the Online Verification process as part of Loudoun County Public Schools’ First Day of School Information initiative. This process is required for all families to review and update important information about their students as we begin the 2022-23 school year, and must be completed no later than Friday, September 23. Once completed, you will be able to view student schedules and bus information in ParentVUE.
If you do not have a ParentVUE account, please contact the school of any of your students to request an Activation Letter. For more information about this Online Verification process, along with FAQs about the First Day of School, please visit: www.lcps.org/FirstDay.
10 year anniversary sponsors
Have you have a chance to check with your family, business, or other community connections to become a sponsor of Champe's tenth anniversary year? Very soon, you'll be able to commit your level of sponsorship by donating via the SchoolCash online payment site. In the meantime, mark your calendar for the big celebration day Friday, September 30.
We need support from our community to make this year a memorable one. Thank you for considering how you can do that; we appreciate you and your generosity!
Clinic
Medications: Loudoun County Public Schools requires a new provider/physician orders each school year for the medication or specialized care which your child receives at school. If your child will continue to need medication or specialized health care at school, you and your child’s licensed healthcare provider must complete and sign the proper form(s). Please note that parents may not amend the provider’s order for managing the child’s medical condition.
The required forms are available in the health office at your child’s school or online at www.lcps.org. Click on the “Families” tab and the forms will be found under Medication at School. The forms should be returned, along with the appropriate medication, in the original, pharmacy labelled container, the week before school starts to the Loudoun County Public School that your child will be attending. Please refer to the “Medication at School Guidelines” for further information regarding medication at school.
Vaccination updates: See the .pdf below for important updates to required vaccinations for the 2022-23 school year, per Virginia House Bill 1090. Of importance for high school is for rising seniors to receive a dose of the Meningococcal Vaccine prior to the start of school on August 25. If you have difficulty opening the .pdf, please ensure you're viewing this newsletter from a browser by clicking on the heading within the body of the email. It should launch a tab in your internet browser from which you can click on active .pdfs.

PTSA
As a follow-up to the email you received from the PTSA of Friday, please note these simple first steps as we kickoff a new year together!
Membership: we invite all students, parents, and staff members to start or renew your annual PTSA membership. It's as easy as visiting our membership portal, selecting your membership type, and completing the online form.
Fundraisers: we have two super easy fundraisers that continue throughout the year at no cost to you.
- Sign up for the Harris Teeter TIE (Together in Education) program
- Designate “John Champe High School PTSA” as your beneficiary for AmazonSMILE
Title IX
Please review the attached .pdf regarding Title IX, which includes additional resources for families as a new school year begins.
Online Payments
LCPS has moved to a different online payment system this year. You can click here to go to SchoolCash to register or sign in. It is very important that you register, as you are only able to view items for purchase if you have registered. Additionally, the system itself is a little different in how it's formatted and how staff members arrange items to be set up for students and families to view. We appreciate your patience with us, but very soon you will be able to view items necessary for your student, athlete, or community contributions like the 10-year sponsorships or classwide donations.
NEW Feature!
New to our newsletter this year will be an "Excellence Everywhere" section in which we'd like to feature alumni and current student updates of note. We're looking to highlight achievements in careers (where are our alums and what are they doing now?), athletics, arts, etc. as we celebrate ten years of excellence from our John Champe Community. Have an update to share? Please complete this form to tell us more about the student(s).
