A Message from Mrs. Caudill
I hope everyone had a relaxing Thanksgiving break and you had time to rest and rejuvenate with your family. It is so hard to believe that it is December! We are one-third of the way through our school year. As I reflect on this year thus far, I am amazed by the amount of learning that has taken place.
As we navigate through this year, we will continue to support our students academically while also focusing on their social-emotional well-being. We believe that students are more likely to succeed when they feel safe, accepted, and included. At Amerman we are investing the time needed to build trusting relationships and learn more about the needs of each student as an individual. Once we understand what motivates them and the challenges they may be facing, we can properly equip them with the support and resources they need to grow and learn.
We have exceptional students, staff, and families. I am humbled to be a part of this journey with all of you. I know that we will do whatever it takes to lift each other up and support every success along the way. Thank you for your continued trust and partnership.
Stay well,
Devon Caudill

Can you recommend a good book for my child?
We heard this question a lot this past week during conferences and our Book Fair.
Here is a great site that offers recommendations by age groups and even links to sites to purchase them: Best Kids' Books of 2022 - Five Books Expert Recommendations
The site has recommendations for readers of all ages whether they like fiction, non-fiction, bound books or audio books. Ultimately the books that your child will enjoy the most are ones that he/she has picked out. The books that children pick are most often books that have something that interests them. So, the best place to start when choosing books for your child is to know your child and what he/she is interested in.

Pink, purple and Blue Bottle Caps needed
Our 5th graders have started working on the bottle cap mural that will be installed in Amerman's main hallway later this year! We have a need for PINK, PURPLE and BLUE plastic bottle caps. If you happen to have any bottle caps of these particular colors, we'd appreciate you sending them to the art room with your student. Check out our progress so far. It looks AMAZING. We can't wait to see it completed.
Thank you in advance for your help with this special project!

NEF Thank a Staff - Super Subs
Christine Parnin and Blake Vertrees were the lucky winners of the NEF thank a staff raffle. They got to start their Thanksgiving break a day early while Dr. Webber, Dr. Brock and Mrs. Santer took over and taught their classes. Sr. Webber even brought his son to join in the fun. Our super subs had a blast and the kids loved it! Such a WIN-WIN!

Girls clothes needed
Thank you to everyone that donated boys clothing to our office in case a change of clothes is needed. We are now hoping you had some gently used girls clothing (long sleave shirts and pants) you could donate. Please drop them office in the main office. Thanks in advance for your support!

Smart Watches Are Off/Away During School
A reminder that students are not permitted to have personal electronic devices during the school day, including smart watches (Apple, Gizmo, Etc). If you need to get a hold of you child, please call the office. We will be more than happy to relay a message for you. When students use their personal communication devices (phones/watches) they pull attention and create a distraction for engaged learning.

The holidays have officially arrived and to help support the community this holiday season, Amerman PTA is partnering with Michigan Cause for Paws, a 501c3 non-profit organization (created and run by one of our own Amerman families), whose mission it is to help local animal shelters across the state of Michigan. For the donation drive we are looking to provide essential supplies like toys, blankets, food and cleaning products for three local shelters that Michigan Cause for Paws is partnering with for this holiday season. Shelter donations will be collected at the final house of the Holiday Lights Drive Thru Scavenger Hunt on December 9-11. Detailed donation and ways to contribute information is included in the flyer below.

Families must preorder lunches for preschools and elementary students. Orders must be in by 8:30 AM for elementary students to receive a lunch that day. The system will not allow you to order after the time listed above. For your convenience, meals can be preordered up to 30 days in advance. It's Time for Habit 3 - Put First Things First
We will be working on Habit 3: Put First Things First this month. Work first, Then Play!
What this means: Focus on what is important, schedule the important things first. Don’t be a dreamer - stay focused!
“I spend my time on things that are most important.”
“I say no to things I know I should not do.”
“I set priorities, make a schedule, and follow my plan.”
“I am disciplined and organized.”
How can I do this in my life?
1. Do your homework as soon as you come home from school.
2. Do something you have been putting off for a long time.
3. Think about your most important responsibilities. Do them first.
Great Books for Habit #3- Put First Things First
