Meet Denise Khalid, Springer Elementary School's New Principal!
Mrs. Khalid rose to the top of our search of highly-qualified principal candidates and we believe she is an excellent fit for Springer’s student, teacher, and parent community. With nearly 20 years of experience in education, Mrs. Khalid has served as a classroom teacher, assistant principal and most recently, as principal for ten years in the Campbell Union Elementary School District. Mrs. Khalid’s experience will ensure that each student achieves to the highest potential.
We are thrilled to welcome Mrs. Khalid, who will begin to prepare immediately for a smooth transition with Springer's current Interim Principal, Mrs. McGonagle. We are planning an opportunity for parents and students to meet her as soon as possible. Please join me in welcoming Mrs. Khalid to the Los Altos School District community. She will officially take the helm of Springer after the December Holiday Break.
Teacher Collaboration Personalizes Learning for All Students
Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction, Mrs. McGonagle, presented information on teacher collaboration in LASD, which serves to personalize learning for our students and foster the strong student achievement for which our schools are known.
All of our teachers collaborate regularly on Thursday afternoons to share best practices and analyze student performance. One major component of this work is a close look at student performance data to check for student understanding and determine which students need more help and those who require an extra challenge. Instructional Specialist Teachers help the team of classroom educators design an instructional plan to move students to the next level in their achievement, implement successful instructional methods and plan for the next unit of study.

Update on Community Engagement for Facilities
Superintendent Baier presented a brief update on the Community Engagement for Facilities process to the Board last night. As you are likely aware, LASD initiated a Community Engagement Process in May 2019 to engage the public in finding a solution to house Bullis Charter School in the long term.
November Workshops
In September and October, the community had the opportunity to discuss previously considered facilities scenarios to house BCS and generate new ideas. Now, in the second phase of the Community Engagement Process, participants are evaluating those community-generated ideas and sharing their level of support through community workshops.
LASD has already hosted two workshops on November 2 and November 4 with over 600 participants. In fact, there was so much community interest that the November 4 workshop couldn't accommodate all who wanted to participate, so there will be a third and final workshop held on November 18.
Please only attend one workshop. The format is the same for all workshops. There is no need to participate in more than one. Attendance is limited to 400 people. Please give others the opportunity to participate on November 18th if you have already had the chance to participate in a workshop. Participants and community members are asked not to distribute materials related to the facilities discussion at the workshop.
Once the workshops are completed, MIG will summarize the results in a report, which will be presented to the LASD Board in January.
Final Workshop, Monday, November 18
Open House: 6-6:30pm
Workshop: 6:30pm-8:30pm
Egan Multipurpose Room
