A Note from Mrs. Pitts
Dear RES Families and Supporters,
We are so amazed by the talents, skills, knowledge and businesses that exist within our community. We know there are so many resources within Rye that we are not aware of or have not tapped into as of yet. We want to know more! If you have a skill, talent, knowledge of a specific topic or a business that you think might further enrich the education of our students here at RES, please email Michelle Pitts at mpitts@sau50.org.
In addition, I am always trying to keep the smiles and laughter for staff at a high level whenever possible. I like to play games and give prizes (see example in the photos below). If you have a business or a connection and want to donate a SMALL gift card or item to my list of fun to be had this year and the years to come, we would love and appreciate that tremendously. Simply email me or send to the office with your name/business and I will be sure to let you know how we used your donation and who benefitted! If you know of a business in town that might be interested and they do not receive this newsletter, feel free to forward. We want to support our local businesses as much as possible!
Have an amazing weekend!
Michelle Pitts, RES Principal

Mrs. Arsenault: A Shift in Service
I wanted to take a moment to explain a change in my daily interaction with all of your children. For years, I have offered “Lunch Bunches” to all students at RES. Sometimes, these bunches have been designed around a specific skill that has been identified as a helpful learning target for various students, but mostly, these lunch bunches are strictly social connection opportunities for me to visit with the students and observe and support their friendships and social interactions. I have loved these lunches with your children, as they are typically decorated with laughter and meaningful conversations. However, scheduling these lunches, and fitting all of them in without inevitable schedule glitches, has been really challenging! Too often, I feel the emotional burden of knowing that I have disappointed a student waiting for a lunch bunch, or students have possibly felt left out by not being invited to a group with classmates.
Upon reflection, Mrs. Pitts and I have decided that my time will be better spent supporting all of the students at RES through my presence in the cafeteria and visiting with students at the tables and in their social groups. I can support conversational skills, conflict resolution, and relationship building at the grade-level, rather than individually. Additionally, I will be able to join students on the playground during these lunch and recess blocks, which will also provide in-the-moment support and strategies. In addition, I will be supporting students for more targeted intervention during our WIN (What I Need) block, similarly to Mrs. Weeks (Reading Support Specialist) and Mrs. Holmes (Math Support Specialist). If your child is identified for this support, you will receive a permission slip. This will truly allow me the opportunity to get to know all of our students at their most social times, as well as te
Working at Rye Elementary School as the School Counselor is my dream job. I enjoy all of the opportunities that you are providing me to empower your child and impact their growth in a positive way. Thank you for your continued support and communication. If you have any questions about my role with your child’s education, or how I may be able to help you or your child in any way, please do not hesitate to contact me.
With respect and sincerity,
Lori Arsenault

Lunch with Students
We do allow one family member at a time to have lunch with their child(ren) but this is very optional and we don't want families to feel pressured to attend.
- Email resoffice@sau50.org if you would like to attend with the date/time (starting October 1). It is important to anticipate who will be in the building. We love these opportunities for students and their family members but we will always put safety first.
- We do have a focus during this time...eating for energy and brain power!
- Family members must meet the child in the cafeteria and leave from the cafeteria.
- Lunch times are:
Kindergarten-11:45-12:10
First Grade-12:15-12:40
Second Grade-12:15-12:40
Third Grade- 11:15-11:40
Fourth Grade-11:15-11:40
