NEW! Thank You Mesa Verde Families
We want to give a very warm and heart felt "Thank You" to our Mesa Verde families for the generous donations for the "Stock the Staff Room" drive! We appreciate your generosity and kindness. Stay safe, healthy and have a wonderful holiday weekend!
Dropping Off Items
If a student forgets an item at home, such as homework, P.E. clothes, band instruments, phones, lunch money, or lunches, parents are permitted to bring those items to school; however, we will not deliver the item or a message about the item to students. Students may check in at the office during passing periods or lunch to retrieve a forgotten item. This is to encourage students to be responsible for the items they need on a daily basis and keep our student’s classroom interruptions to a minimum. At no time will individual or group online/call-in food orders be allowed for delivery.
Meet Your Friends for Breakfast
Did you know that PUSD provides free breakfast and lunch for students?
You can pick up your breakfast in the cafeteria or bring your breakfast from home. Meet in the lunch area after 7:30am while enjoying good conversations with friends. This is a fun way to spend time with friends while starting your school day on time at 8am.
MVMS Math Club
Mesa Verde Math Club is starting September 20th. Registration and permission forms are now being collected. The Math Club is open to all students wanting to solve challenging math problems and compete in the Math Olympiad and/or as part of our school's Mathcounts Competition Team. All members of math club will also have the opportunity to take the AMC8 and a select group of our members end up taking the AMC 10. Registration can be completed through MVMS's main webpage and follow the links to "CLUBS" under the tab "Student Life". Registration and Permissions form due by Friday September 15th.
Bike Permits
To ensure that our students are aware of and abiding by school and city safety rules related to bicycles, e-bikes, scooters, etc., students will now be required to apply for a permit to park their mode of transportation on campus/bike racks during the school day. The student will have to complete the online quiz and form. In the meantime, your student may ride their bike, scooter, skateboard, etc. to school during this grace period. Permits will be handed out Mid-September. Use your phone to click on the QR code.
MVMS School Library in Need of Volunteer

Wednesdays: 11:20 to 12:45
No experience necessary, flexible schedules - you can choose to volunteer once a week, once a month.... Please contact Heather Ryan hryan@powayusd.com for more information.
THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A GUEST, A VISITOR AND A VOLUNTEER AS PER THE PUSD BOARD POLICIES
1. A Visitor is defined as an individual who, with school district authorization, attends a student performance, special event, festival, open house, back-to-school event, sports event, athletic competition, etc. A visitor may either be accompanied or unaccompanied by school district staff. Designated school district administrative personnel are to make this determination. A visitor is usually not required to sign a registry.
Example: Your school is being recognized for achievement and members of SDCOE are coming to watch students or your school is hosting a Jr. Olympic competition.
2. A Guest is defined as an individual who, with school district approval, assists students, schools, and teachers on a non-regular basis or who individually observes a classroom or activity. A guest may also assist with educational programs or with special events on an occasional or infrequent basis. A guest shall immediately report his or her presence at the school office or at the designated school location upon arrival at the school and sign a guest registry.
Example: Your school is hosting the book fair, a play where parents are coming to watch, or a teacher needs help in the classroom with a one- or two-day tie-dye t-shirt project for the jog-a-thon. A class is hosting a party or a fun run.
3. A Volunteer is defined as an individual who, with school district authorization, voluntarily assists school districts, schools, educational programs, or students on a regular and ongoing basis. A volunteer is required to complete a Volunteer Application and have a Megan’s Law Background Check or a State and/or Federal Background Check completed.
Example: A parent is assisting with a weekly and ongoing project such as the running club or Lego league. A grandparent is helping in music or art classes weekly. A field trip chaperone and/or driver (usually requires Level 1 and 2 applications).
If someone is coming to help in the class only one or two times, they are not considered volunteers therefore do not need to fill out a Level 1 application.

Cell Phones
As part of our goal to help students learn how to use electronic devices properly, for positive purposes, and at appropriate times, students are permitted to use devices at school ONLY before or after school and at lunch. Devices are not to be used during passing periods (this is a change from last year), in the locker rooms or restrooms, or in class which includes PE (unless with teacher permission). Video and pictures are not permitted without consent.
Earbuds/Headphones/Airpods
It is extremely important that students are able to hear directions and emergency announcements from teachers and staff; therefore earbuds, headphones, and airpods are not permitted before school, during passing periods, at lunch, or any other time on campus or in classrooms without permission from a teacher or other adult.

Health Office Information
Does Your Student Need Medication at School?
Poway Unified School District philosophy is that parents bear the primary responsibility in providing medication for their students. Whenever possible, medication should be administered at home. Parents have the option to personally administer medication to their child at any time during the school day. Health assistance can be provided to support student learning and attendance. Medication administration is provided under the direction and indirect supervision of the resource nurses in Health Services. If a student needs medication during the school day, the following procedure must be followed, according to Ed Code:
- Complete an Authorization for Medication Administration form (H-26) for all prescriptions, over the counter, and herbal medication. The form requires signatures by both the parent and the student’s physician. The physician must be licensed in the state of California.
- The completed form should be given to the Health Technician at the same time as you deliver the medication.
- The medication must be in a pharmacy-labeled container stating the student’s full name, medication name, proper dosage, and time to be given.
Please check the expiration date on all medication you provide to the school site and update this medication as needed.
- Long term medication: Provide no more than a 1 month supply and replenish the medication as needed.
- Over-the-counter medication (i.e. Benadryl, Tylenol, or herbal medication): Medication must be in original container clearly labeled with student’s name. Parent and physician authorization is required.
- Sunscreen and Throat Lozenges/Cough Drops may be administered to preschool/elementary school students with parent authorization only by completing and signing the top portion of the H-26 form. A physician signature is not required. All products must be in original packaging and labeled with the student’s name. No authorization for Sunscreen and Throat Lozenges/Cough Drops is required for Middle School or High School students.
- Epi-pens and Epinephrine auto-injectors: A Potential Anaphylactic Reaction form (H-58) should be completed and signed by physician and parent. (H-26 form is not necessary)
- Asthma: Please provide spacers for inhalers, if indicated, and review your child’s use of the inhaler with the school site Health Technician.
- ESS and Medication: Health Technician and ESS Coordinator can communicate and share forms. However, you must provide separate containers of medication for each location.
Note: Poway Unified School District has a “zero tolerance” drug policy for all students.
Do not put your child at risk of receiving disciplinary action! Don’t send your child to school with any medication unless you have followed the medication procedure. Remember, even Tylenol or Advil are considered to be drugs.
Students may carry their own medication only if they are responsible and an Authorization to Carry Medication While at School form (H-26B) has been signed by the physician, parent, and student.
