RMS News and Updates
February 20, 2024

We need your help. We have seen a rise of students using their cell phones during the school day. As a reminder, students may freely use their cellphones before the first bell (8:00 a.m.) and after the dismissal bell rings at 2:45 p.m. During the school day we ask that all phones are put away, unless students get a pass and go to the office to use their phone.
The use of cellphones during the school day results in distractions, reduced time in class, increased peer-to-peer conflict, and the inability to be present for learning. We know that cell phones are a large part of our students' realities, but like anything, a healthy balance of use and disconnecting is imperative. Please refrain from texting or calling your child throughout the school day. If you need to reach them, call the office. We appreciate your attention to this matter.
As always, thank you so much for your support and collaboration as we strive to create an environment where all students can do their best.
Thank you for reading. This issue has a lot to celebrate!! Enjoy a relaxing and safe break!

RMS 6th grade student, Janey Whipple received a certificate from the Vermont Department of Libraries for reading all 25 books that have been nominated for the Vermont Golden Dome Book Award. The Vermont Golden Dome Book Award (formerly the Dorothy Canfield Fisher Book Award) was created to honor excellence in children's literature. Each year since 1957, Vermont students in grades four through eight have selected their favorite book from a list of nominees. It is recommended that students read at least five of the year's nominated titles before voting. Voting takes place in the spring, generally beginning in April. Congratulations, Janey!

The event filled our auditorium and the music from our bands and chorus was phenomenal. It was a great evening and watching our students present their learning and accomplishments was certainly a wonderful way to spend a cold winter's night!
