We have had lots of events going on this week, and it's been great to see so many of our families involved! We love getting you in to show off all our fantastic learning!

Next week continues to be another fun-packed week in school, and we hope to see you at our Harvest Festival next Friday!

From next week, our virtue will be thankfulness.

If your child shows thankfulness at home, please share this with us (feel free to email me or let me know on the gates in the morning) and we will celebrate this in school too!

Linked to our virtue of thankfulness, we are introducing 'staff shout outs'!

Every day, I see the staff in our school going above and beyond for our children! If you would like to celebrate a member of staff at any point and share some kind words of gratitude, feel free to 'shout out' on the form below. We will pass your message on to the member of staff to share your thankfulness.

Next Friday, 6th October, at 9:15am, we are holding a Harvest Festival in school and our families are very welcome to join us! We are asking children if they could possibly bring in an item to donate to our local foodbank project at The Barn in Tadcaster.

The items they are currently in most need of are:

• TINNED MEAT MEALS: STEW, MINCE, CHILLI, RAVIOLI, CURRY
• TINNED COLD MEATS: HAM, CORNED BEEF
• TINNED HOT DOGS, MEATBALLS
• TINNED SOUPS
• TINNED FRUIT - ALL KINDS
• TINNED VEG – PEAS, CARROTS, POTATOES
• TINNED RICE PUDDING
• TINNED CUSTARD
• MICROWAVE RICE
• JAM
• PASTA

Great news... this week, we awarded our first ever DIAMOND CERTIFICATE! This is reserved for a when a child does something incredible, which is above and beyond our usual expectations!

Our lovely recipient was Harrison (from St Therese's class). Harrison sat throughout our whole school mass with a supportive arm around his reception buddy. This was completely unprompted by adults and demonstrated such kindness and compassion. Thank you, Harrison, for living out our Gospel values!

We are delighted to have signed up to a series of sporting events with a cluster of local schools. The events will vary throughout the year, and will include children from Y1-6.

This week, our Year 2s (St Bernadette's) travelled to Barlow School to participate in a multi-skills tournament.

Staff were thoroughly impressed by their beautiful manners and sportsmanship. Well done, St Bernadette's - you represented our school perfectly!

Our nursery and pre-school class have been creating 'Autumn leaves' using paints, applied with a variety of household objects! These included clothes pegs; cotton reels; hessian; and tin foil!

This week, we have been enjoying the book ‘Funnybones’ by Janet and Allan Ahlberg! We began by looking carefully at the font cover and making predications and inferences based on the illustration. The reception children had some fantastic ideas which we added to the English display, while the Year 1 children worked hard to write down their predictions.

In History, we went digging for clues about our local history. When we ‘dug up’ our historical object, we had to work in teams to guess what building on our Tadcaster map the object had originated from! We enjoyed working in teams to piece bits of Tadcaster’s history together.

In literacy, we imagined that we were Theseus in the labyrinth. We moved around the classroom looking for green cards with sentences inside. Each sentence described a positive or negative encounter with the Minotaur and had points attached. The team with the most points were the winners!

As part of our work on the Ancient Egyptians, St Therese Class made some date balls from a 3500-year-old recipe found on a piece of pottery. We discussed lots of ways in which food has changed since then, which explained why we had to make a few amendments to the recipe.

It was an absolute privilege to celebrate Mass as a whole school together in Church this Wednesday. Thank you to the families that joined our celebrations.

Our children did us proud, as they served and led the Mass with such reverence and vibrancy!

On Wednesday 4th October, at 3:45pm, I am holding an informal meeting in school for any parents who wish to discuss the formation of an official PTA and share ideas of how families can help to fundraise for our school!

We are really proud of St Therese's Class, who worked hard to serve this morning, in aid of a worthwhile cause.

A huge thank you, also, to Riverside School, who joined teams with us and sent their Year 6 classes over to join our team for the morning! Teamwork makes the dream work!

Aw, our stay and play for reception parents/carers was packed! We loved having you in school, and we know our reception children were bubbling with excitement to share all their learning with you! We hope to host more of these sessions (and rolled out to other year groups) as the year progresses.

We are delighted to announce our open days for prospective parents of children due to start reception in Sept, 2024.

This year, children will come into school in uniform each day.

I have been made aware that the current uniform policy states that children should have jumpers and t-shirts with the school logo. As a parent of two children myself, I appreciate how costly this would be to maintain! With this in mind, I am more than happy for children to wear the correct colour jumper and t-shirt without logos!

The PE days for each class are as follows:

St Francis (Reception/Y1): Thursday

St Bernadette (Y2): Friday

St Patrick (Y3/4): Monday

St Therese (Y5/6): Monday and Wednesday

Swimming is on a Wednesday afternoon for Years 1-4. Children need to come in uniform with their swimming kit in a bag please.

We are delighted to be offering after school clubs this term. As the year progresses, we hope to offer a wider variety of clubs. Please bear with us - I'm sure you can appreciate that there is a lot on our to-do list at the start of the year and with several new members of staff!
