April is Military Child Month.

We would like to honor our military families and children and thank them for their service to our country.

Please wear purple on Thursday, April 29 to show your support and appreciation.

We are so excited to have our 3rd graders back to school in person!

A huge thank you to our families, students, and teachers for working to make remote learning successful! 28 out 30 students on Teams is awesome!!!

Miranda Burnside, secretary at Hodgesville Elementary School, is the calm, smiling person who greets all our families and staff. Mrs. Burnside has been a secretary with Upshur County Schools for 2 years. Everyone knows Mrs. Burnside will do anything possible to help our students and staff. We love Mrs. Burnside and would like to wish her a Happy Secretary's Week!!

On May 10,2021, school counselors, teachers and nurses will present the Human Growth and Development Program to fifth grade students.

The purpose of the program is to discuss the physical and emotional maturation of students, and this program is part of the health curriculum. Please understand that puberty is the focus of the discussion, so reproduction will not be discussed.

Parents will have the opportunity to examine the materials and curriculum to be used. These materials will be available online at the following website: https://www.pgschoolprograms.com/Parents or by contacting your child’s school counselor, Suzanne Bohman.

Parents may choose to have their child excluded from health class on this day. If you exercise this option, your child will not be penalized for missing this portion of the curriculum and will be provided an alternative assignment.

We are excited to announce we will be receiving a high tunnel greenhouse from the Upshur County Extension Service.

While the greenhouse is free, we do need to find people to install it!

Do we have any families who would be interested in installing this once it is received???

If we have persons with knowledge of "HOW" to do it, we could set up a work day to have lots of help!

The students will love growing food to be served in the cafeteria!

We received a grant from the MonTy Soil Conservation District to grow food in the classroom in towers. Kindergarten has some plants growing!!

It is imperative that students be present and on time during this week.

K - 2 students will be completing their final STAR test that week.

Kindergarten studied worm farms last week. Throughout the week, they learned about nightcrawler and worms! Mrs. Phillips provided a video from Mountain State Bait Farm. Students ended the week with nightcrawler painting (they were not harmed!!) and eating worm pudding!
