The Middle School Minute
Central DeWitt Middle School Happenings
Principal's Place
I hope this communication finds you enjoying a wonderful summer with kids that are itching to come back to school! For the incoming 7th graders, welcome to the Middle School. We look forward to helping you with the transition to the new building. For our returning 8th graders, we look forward to having you back and taking on the responsibility of being the leaders in the building. For those of you completely new to the district, welcome to Central DeWitt. We think you'll find that we have a great district that helps all students achieve academically, grow socially and provides a diverse offering of extra-curricular activities.
I would encourage all students to get involved in some type of activity whether it is a sport, fine arts activity or a club. It's a great way to meet new people and build a stronger connection to your school.
Our Middle School team is excited to get started. We believe a positive education experience is collaborative and we encourage you to reach out and communicate with your child's teachers throughout the year. We are committed to providing a safe, inclusive learning environment that provides learning opportunities for all.
Let's have a start to the 2023-2024 school year!

Schedules, Lockers and Transportation
STUDENT SCHEDULES
You should be able to view student schedules starting Friday, August 11. Keep in mind that there are still modifications being made as we add new students and balance rosters.
We are transitioning to a new building schedule this year. With that in mind, there are a number of adjustments that are still being made. If your child does not have one of the required classes listed below in the first quarter, please email our School Counselor, Tierra Hildebrandt. tierra.hildebrandt@cd-csd.org
She will be working on making these schedule adjustments over the next couple of weeks. If there is a blank period on the current schedule, there are adjustments being made to add an additional class.
Required Classes that should definitely be scheduled for the 1st Quarter:
7th - Math, ELA (2 periods), Contemporary Global Studies, Science, P.E., FCS/Health
8th - Math, ELA (2 periods), History, Science, P.E., FCS/Health
Also, if you signed up for Band and/or Chorus, that should be on your schedule as well.
All other classes are Exploratory or Electives and may fall in any of the 4 quarters.
LOCKERS
When you are able to view your schedules on Infinite Campus, you will also be able to view your child's locker information - locker number and combination. Feel free to stop by the Middle School prior to school starting if you want to practice with your locker and see where your classrooms are. Our secretary is here from 7:00-3:00 each day starting Monday, August 14.
TRANSPORTATION
If your child rode the bus last year, most routes are similar BUT you will want to check Transportation tab to confirm pickup and drop off times/locations. If you have any questions about transportation, contact the Transportation department at 563-659-0706.
Transportation Changes during the day
Once school starts, when needing to make a change of transportation for your child, please contact our office prior to 2:00 PM so that we can get messages communicated.
Fall Activities
Activities Registration
The link for activities registration, the registration tutorial, and a blank copy of a physical form can be found at the link below. Getting a physical done now and the registration complete ASAP ensures your athlete won't have any surprises during the school year as it would be good for the entire 2023-2024 school year.
Be sure to get your physical and registration completed. Coaches will communicate through Varsity Bound which is what you will sign up for when registering for an activity.
Resiliency Room
As we strive to do the best we can for our students, we are continuously evaluating and evolving in how we respond to student needs. A new addition to our programming in the 23-24 school year is the implementation of a resiliency room for our 7th-12th grade students. The goal of the resiliency room is to provide a space where students can reset, learn, and ultimately return to the classroom to benefit from instruction.
This room will provide a structured environment for students to work through an appropriate curriculum that addresses the behavior that caused them to be there. In the past, these situations may have resulted in a student being removed from class, sent to the office to sit and wait or possibly even suspended. The resiliency room will be a more targeted approach at addressing issues students are having.
Drop-off and Pick-up Procedures
Due to safety concerns and to reduce congestion at drop-off and pick-up times, all Middle School students prior to 8:00 am should be dropped off at Door #24 which is the Southwest door in the Middle School. Cars should enter the parking lot by the tennis courts, circle around and drop off at the west end of the parking lot. Middle School students should also be picked up from this door after school.
NO students should be dropped off or picked up in front of the Middle School building as this is a bus lane. (Not in front of the Middle School door #22)
If you have Middle School and Intermediate School students, please drop off Middle School students by the tennis court lot and then drop off Intermediate students by the Intermediate Building. All doors will be unlocked at 7:30am for entry.
Thank you for helping us improve our pick-up and drop-off procedures!
