President's Day is observed annually on the third Monday in February. This year President's Day will be celebrated on Monday, February 20. It is one of eleven permanent federal holidays established by Congress. Although most often referred to as "President's Day," this federal holiday was officially called "Washington's Birthday" to honor the birthday of our first president, George Washington. By calling it "President's Day", we can also celebrate another great president's February birthday, Abraham Lincoln.

Jefferson sixth grade students have the opportunity to participate each year in the VFW Patriot's Pen scholarship program. Student writing entries have the chance to be judged at the local, district, and state level.

Jefferson sixth grade student, Sadie Ayotte, was recently presented with a certificate and two award checks of $100 each for winning first place in the VFW District 9 Patriot's Pen competition. This year's theme was "My Pledge to our Veterans."

VFW District 9 covers a vast area of the north country. It includes VFW Posts form Beekmantown, Canton, Champlain, Ellenburg, Gouverneur, Keeseville, Massena, Mineville, Ogdensburg, Peru, Plattsburgh, Saranac Lake, Schroon Lake, Ticonderoga, and Tupper Lake.

Sadie was also surprised to learn from Mrs. Frances Marcil, Scholarship Chairman VFW Post 1143, that her writing piece entry was judged 4th place in the state competition. She received a certificate as well as a scholarship check for $500.

Congratulations Sadie. We are proud of you!

Reaching the milestone of 100 days in school is a major accomplishment celebrated each year at the elementary schools. Notice that some teachers and students have really "aged" during the first 100 days! See below.

Recital Date:

Jefferson Elementary February 28, 2023—7pm

The time has arrived for this year’s Jefferson Instrumental Recitals. The students have been putting in an incredible amount of time and effort at their individual schools which should amount to a wonderful and exciting first performance experience! These recitals will be conducted with all Beginning Band members, and will be held at 7pm on Tuesday, February 28, 2023. The Recital will take place in the Jefferson Gymnasium.
