Hello Bulldog Families.
Schedules have been adjusted, students are settling in, and great things are happening at Batavia High School!
This week, Mr. Buis and I continued to get to know several of your students and have enjoyed our many lunchroom conversations. We have seen student drawings/artwork, have learned about favorite video games, and have discussed a variety of athletic interests with many of our students. It truly is a perfect opportunity to become acquainted with many of them.
We’ve watched classrooms come to life as teachers are settling into their routines, and students are ready to take on some new challenges. In fact, as we were monitoring bus drop off in the gym, we saw multiple students on their Chromebooks working ahead on some assignments at 7:00 a.m.! Pretty cool to see!
Before I close out this welcome, I wanted to share a quick tidbit about a young man I met this week. Due to busing schedules, our high school students unload at 7:00 a.m. and wait in the cafeteria and/or gym until they are permitted to move to their first period class. As you can imagine, it can be pretty crowded. A water bottle was dropped on the gym floor as the bell was ringing and students were exiting the gym. A young man came up to me and asked if he could help our custodian clean it up. It was purely genuine as I do not believe he was involved in spilling it! Sometimes, it’s the little gestures or things that mean so much! We have awesome kids!
Take a moment to read a little about one of our talented sophomores and review some of the notes and upcoming important dates.
In service to our Bulldogs.

STUDENT SHOUT OUT
Batavia sophomore, Russell Jones, is chosen as a Borlaug Scholar
Russell Jones, a sophomore at Batavia High School, was selected to attend the AG DISCOVERY summer camp at Tuskegee University in Alabama.
As part of his participation in the camp, Russell entered an essay competition through the Alabama Youth Institute where he identified solutions to combat world hunger in a developing nation. His essay was selected as an entry into the 2022 World Food Prize Alabama Youth Institute! Russell is one of 200 students nationwide who is considered a 2022 Borlaug Scholar and is selected to move to the next phase of the global scholarship and research program.
To prepare for the upcoming international conference, Russell is tasked with polishing his essay and resubmitting by September 9th.
Congratulations, Russell, on this amazing accomplishment. Your Batavia High School family is proud of you!
PLEASE TAKE NOTE OF THE FOLLOWING
Students are not permitted to order DoorDash. If parents/guardians wish to bring lunch for their students, they must bring it to the office. We will only allow parents/guardians to bring lunch to their student, not their student’s friends. No siblings or friends of students will be permitted to bring in lunch. Thank you for cooperating as student safety is our primary concern.
Morning and Afternoon Drop Off: If you are dropping off or picking up your students, please use the Old 32 entrance and drop them off in the circle in FRONT of the building. Thank you for helping us keep everyone safe.
Dress Code: Please partner with us as we ask your student to adhere to a few dress code guidelines. We are asking that students wear tops that come to the top of their jeans/shorts/skirts so that the midriff is not completely exposed. We are also asking that the tops are school appropriate. We will continue to have individual conversations with students and may reach out to you for assistance if the need arises. Thank you.
